A Jefferson City woman faces felony charges, accused of stabbing another woman in the face over $200 in bingo winnings. The argument started Sunday night as three people were driving home after playing bingo in Moberly.

Ashland police say the driver, 51-year old Margaret Thomas, pulled over on Highway 63 and stabbed a passenger in the backseat with scissors. The victim needed 32 stitches in her cheek.

Thomas is in the Boone County Jail on $150,000 bond. She was charged Monday in Boone County Court with one count of felony domestic assault and one count of felony armed criminal action.

JC Council clears way for Sam's Club
by Jennifer Weiser

The Jefferson City council has finally cleared the way for the construction of a Sam's Club. At Monday's meeting, they approved the permit for construction to start on Stoneridge Parkway.

The council approved the matter in September, but had to hold a public hearing before a final vote was taken. The 136,000-square-foot facility would be built behind the Menard's, which is on Hard Rock Road. The store is expected to bring in 150-175 jobs.

Also at Monday's meeting, Jefferson City Police Chief Roger Schroeder talked to the council about the cost of fixing the two warning sirens that were hit by lightning in September. He says the total costs will be $44,326. The city does have a $10,000 insurance deductible, but they have to find out if the two sirens will be counted as one claim, or as two separate claims.

Craig set to return for World Series

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Cardinals cleanup hitter Allen Craig says he's recovered from a foot injury and ready to be put on St. Louis' World Series roster.

Craig, who hasn't played since Sept. 4 because a left mid-foot sprain, said Sunday he anticipates being the designated hitter in Wednesday night's Series opener at Boston.

Craig batted a major league-best .454 during the regular season with runners in scoring position.

The Cardinals worked out at Busch Stadium on Sunday, two days after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL pennant.
