I'm a Bear fan and a Packer hater. Haven't played this game and may not. The line is right where I expected it to be, but that doesn't mean I understand it. I would like to hear from Eagle backers on why they are the play for today. I know they're at home with rest, but that didn't mean chit yesterday. and, the Eagles home field advantage hasn't exactly been that strong this year. They face the most experienced of QB's and one of the best running games in the league. They struggle to stop the run. And, they're best playmaker , IMO, outside of McNabb is out. Also, Troy Vincent is banged up. I know they have a solid secondary and McNabb is a great leader. But, I'd like to hear some solid reasoning why anyone should lay 5 to GB today.

Thanks and good luck,

Willy

Scott - Spreitzer is on Philly as a GOY.

How's that for encouragement ? LOL

Everything about Philly is ugly. They win Ugly. Uniforms are ugly.
Fans obnoxious ! ( do they still have a precinct-pen at the stadium for these hooligans?)

but they do win !

Good Luck

The games that were played yesterday dont mean "chit" to the game played today.

Philly is at home.

Philly already beat GB earlier this year.

That game was AT LAMBEAU

AND Ahman had almost 200 yards rushing in that one yet they still lost.

Stats from a couple month ago don't mean "chit", either.;)

Many more knowledgeable cappers in here than I, but that said, there seems to be something going on with Brett right now , so either Pack plus, or possibly the over. So I believe :nutkick to Eagles, and Pack at least covers. Nuff said, Buck

Green Bays last 5 wins - home vs Chicago, at San Diego, at Oakland, home vs Denver (who sat their whole team) and home vs Seahawks (OT win)....

In my opinion the Packers are being built up to be better than they truly are. Last weeks game really confirmed this to me. We all know that Seattle struggles on the road, but they did take this team to OT in Green Bay - but that is not what really convinced me, it is how that game got to overtime. Seattle was done seven, with two minutes to go, and marched down that field to tie that game up without a hitch. (I know they aren't the 85 Bears here but come on you've got to make a key stop to win in the playoffs) That's a real concern in my opinion. If you're defense can't shut down Seattle at home then what are they going to do in a key spot late in the game on the road?

Another observation I had was with Favre. Multiple times in the past few games he seems to just fling it up there - hoping to make a play. Most of these go incomplete, but a few are caught for big gains. Trust me, Brian Dawkins and Michael Lewis are not going to let this happen. Dawkins will either take the Wr's head off or Lewis will take that ball back for six.

Sure, people can run on the Eagles - but large rushing numbers do not always equate to points. The Eagle defense does stiffen up in the red zone, and while I'm sure that Ahman Green will get his today, that does not neccessarily mean he'll be in the end zone. (Since the Linc is opened up at the end zones the wind will also be a factor - FG's of 50+ will not be an option according to what I've read.)

Losing Brian Westbrook hurts, he's the home run hitter for this team. But Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter are more than servicable in the backfield. Remember last year in the playoffs Staley was the main starter and carried the load. The three headed monster usually features Buckhalter running, Staley catching, and BW doing both. While it hurts their options without Westbrook - they still have talented and experienced players in the backfield.

Keys of this game to me will be Bobby Taylor and Michael Lewis. Dawkins will be used to blitz often, in an attempt to shut down the run a bit. If these two can patrol deep, the Eagles will win this game. It's going to be a hard fought one, but the Packers lack of defense is the difference. 31-21 Eagles

First of all, great call on Carolina.

As far a Philly goes, Blackman about says it all. In a nutshell, reasons to take Philly are they're at home, GB just came off a very emotional win last week, they took GB's best shot during the season and still won (at GB), even without Emmons, they're a much better Defense now with Dawkins and Taylor back at 100%, and Vincent at 80% and I do believe the Pack is a little overrated.

I also don't think Philly will miss Westbrook as much as everyone things. Staley has been playing very well the last few weeks of the season, and I thought he was vastly under used in the Frisco game.

I think the Favre phenomena leads to the Pack being overrated. That said, Philly is going to stack the line to try to stop Ahman Green, putting the GB wideouts man-to-man with Philly's Defensive strength. So, the ironic thing it will probably come down to how well Favre plays. If you feel he can do it, GB is the play. If not, you might want to play the Eagles.

I know it's not that easy but that's how I see it after reading a deluge of information.

Good luck ;)

Vanished into vortex
I see the majority of people on GB, the line has not moved much since early on. I am not sold on either team myself, but there has been so much hype about Brett Favre on ESPN that I may throw up, and if you have any clue at all you know ESPN is nothing more than a whore for Vegas;)
That being said the game will be decided on the field and the better team is Philly, much as I dislike them and their fans I think they get over today.

Good luck either way

This is very true. So many of my homer friends, co-workers, countrymen, think he is playing a wonderful game. Most of those passes are the same ones that usually get "picked", and it's "What the Fuk is he doing?!!" But these people poo-poo it and tell me, "He's back!"

Plain and simple......he has been lucky.

That being said, I think the Hawks played a better game, and had better coaching then we will be against today. I fully expect Philly to attempt to stuff Green, but that doesn't mean they will. I highly doubt he will get 190+ this week!

Favre will most likely need to be a factor, and he can't make mistakes. Unfortunately, I think he will. I just don't think they will be earth shattering mistakes. I like Green Bay to cover the number today, and even win outright.

Don't really like either team in this game. Think there is a little value in taking the points. But to the people who think Philly won the first game must not have watched it. Green Bay beat them in every phase of the game but couldnt hold the ball. They failed to score on three different drives due to fumbles. Now this may have been caused by great defense but I didn't see it that way. Twice Favre and twice Green fumbled with very little or no contact. Just adding some info.

YYZ - looks like we were right about something - Favre flung it up there and the team of destiny got sideswiped by Mr Dawkins tonight.

Slickwilly - feel bad that I swayed you into a losing play tonight - Packers deserved that cover (and probably the win). For once luck was on Philly's side, but if you rode me I apologize.

Just wanted opinions, had a strong lean to the Pack, but didn't play it, just decided to lose on the over instead. I'll probably take the points against your Birds next week too. How anyone can expect Philly to win a game by more than a field goal with that offense is beyond me. 4th and 26, untouched receiver down the seam. 4th and inches, you punt went 1 foot ends the game, you deserve to lose. As well as the Panthers played yesterday, I don't think the NFC has much of a chance at winning the Super Bowl. Colts offense is unreal and NE might be the best-coached and most disciplined team in the league. Kind of strange that after this incredible weekend of football, the NFC championship game will feature two very ugly teams. And one of them gets to go to the big one. Don't see the big one being a real fun game to watch, but, we'll see.

Sorry to hear about the over - as for the next rounds I have to let this one sink in - thinking I won't test my luck with playing the Eagles anymore - just going to enjoy the games.
