I see this used alot and have never understood it's meaning. Can someone enlighten me as to what a 'live dog' is?

One more, I'm always confused when people say it's a 'system play' yet don't bother explaining the system.

thanks

live dog is an underdog with (in their opinion) a pretty good shot of winning.

system plays are plays that fit a system like tampa 0-20 in home games. play this system all year and turn a profit.

in reality though, many times, system plays are fictitious made-up systems thrown out by players thinking they have unlocked the key to the golden goose. Trying to sound bravado and arrogant in that they have a reasoning for their play other than that they bet it. explaining a system that is often times fictitious is both fortuitous and unfruitful.

the beauty of a system is that you can make your own up. let's take the cubs today. cubs are undefeated when zambrano wears red socks. now you can post the cubs today and say you have a system assuming that zambrano is gonna wear red socks. in reality he probably won't. but then you can say your inside sources had bad info.

taking nothing away from the madjackers here that do post systems and reasoning. there are plenty of good ones with solid info. there's also plenty of bad ones posting "air"

Thanks for the 'live dog' explanation. That's what I figured but if anyone is going to bet on a dog, obviously they think there's a chance of it winning. I just didn't think they need to coin a phrase for it.

As to the systems, I know what they are but it just puzzles me when people label it without explaining the system.

thanks

I've always thought the same Infinii.

All too often people will just say "team A is a system play". For all we know the system is to play a team whenever the pitcher wears polka dot underwear.

infinii,

track this one for users if you have time.

"starting pitcher"

must have following from last start;

6 or more innings.
more hits allowed than innings pitched.
strike-outs must be within 2.0 of innings pitched.

play over in the game...of that starter.

First of all there are many people who play only dogs and many of those feel that any + 200 dog is worth a shot. Then there are others that feel the line is inflated in favor of the fav because of a big name pitcher or some other cirumstance and they see that as value. In many cases that could be considered a live dog because if you run the numbers the dog has as much chance of winning as the fav.

I have several situation plays that have been very successful over the years. I found out the hard way that if I explain what I do and how they work. for some unbeknown reason they never work again. I know that there are several other cappers here that have run into the same thing.

Good luck today

I know Joe. I always appreciate your 'help' and there's no need for your explain yourself. Your contributions speak for themself.

Good luck to you too, with your help and a couple of fletcher's plays I hit a 5 teamer last night.

Good for you. Now, if yoo had put them with Ray's 5 you could have taken the rest of the year off.
