Well, I just don't agree with you. I honestly think he is humorous and speaks his mind...how many commentators do that?

He also knows the game better than almost anyone. Frankly, I think the guy is by far the best analyst in sports.

And Sir Charles is the best in the studio!!

I have to agree with you on Walton (and Charles). I used to dislike him immensely but then I saw him one night on Letterman. It was a great interview that shed new light on him for me. I thought he really took himself too seriously. But this guy really just has a great way of mixing his knowledge of the game with humor. "That was the worst pass in the history of the franchise"...I always get a kick out of that comment. But those with disdain for him is understandable...different strokes ya know...

Just do what I do when Joe Buck is announcing...crank the stereo and mute the tv.

love bill, tells it like it is, doesnt conform for sure, but knows the game inside out--and is hard on big men who dont take it hard to the rack ... Many things he says he doesnt believe and does them to get a charge outta people

Doug Collins seems to have his sht together without trying to be 'cute'.

The game is good enough

unless Boston or Washington are playing

A lot of times, the game is NOT good enough.

Walton was a great player (who knows what he would have been w/o all those injuries in NBA) and had 2 great coaches in Wooden and Dr. Jack, not to mention playing the end of his career with Bird, etc.

He had a dry humor that comes off as cocky, but you have to know that he doesn't really take himself that serious.
I think he's funny as hell and does a great job. Love him and Marv Albert.
Doug Collins is not in their league. Not many are though.

The best color announcer in the league is Walt ''Clyde'' Frazier. His use of language is seriously more entertaining than the Knicks most of the time.

:mj07: Collins is awesome. Walton makes ridiculous statements. Maybe he's joking all the time. I'll never forget when he said with 0.2 seconds left in the game and a team down 4 he said :"This game isn't over yet."

The biggest thing I find from posts like this is just to discuss and at the same time agree to disagree.
For example, I don't really like Billy Packer. But the guy does the final 4 every single year. I can only assume that a lot of people like him.
So I can live with it.
I love listening to Walton, Marv, Vitale, Bill Raftery, Keith Jackson, etc. I think announcers are huge when it comes to enjoying the game but everyone has different tastes.
I loved Dennis Miller on MNF. People didn't mind Cosell, but couldn't have Miller. I never understood that. Miller did his homework and brought something different to the game. Thats what MNF is for, something different.
But, again, to each his own.

I guess the "cute" John Madden style of doing games is what some enjoy.

So Walton will be keeping his gig.

Unless the ratings drop.

Baby Johnson, The name "Touchdown Jesus" comes from Notre Dame. There is a picture on campus, I think its outside of a library, and it shows Jesus with his arms raised. I think you can see it from the stadium.
Anyway, long ago someone called it "Touchdown Jesus" and it just became another Notre Dame tradition.
I am a Christian and love Jesus and certainly mean no disrespect by using that name.
Although Notre Dame's record the last few years may be a little disrespectful to the Lord.
