What I am saying iis just because the Military was victorious doesn't mean that they were successful. The point I was getting to is that you suggest that democrats who opposed a surge were rooting for the Military to lose. So would you then suggest that the republicans who opposed the surge were rooting for the military lose too?

Doubtful. There would be no gain for a republican for the US to lose or struggle. They would only gain by US/Bush Admin success. But, the dems seemed so excited to say "I told you so" and "all is lost". And, there is no doubt they would gain by Bush's failure. I really do believe there are left wingers - and most likely some left wing politicians who hoped for US failure to teach those in power a leason. And, some politicians really seemed to savior their time in front of the camera talking about our military struggles and why we couldnt win.I have no proof what people think inside, but yes, I do think there were left wingers silently rooting for failure for their own gain.

The US fight with Iraq was not a civil war... You can't go to war and invade another country and call it a civil war. Now a civil war may have broke out between Iraqis later. Comparing the length of time to military success is what I am getting to. You can't compare the two wars when it comes to length of time and military success. The military success in Iraq is insignificant to the success of the Civil War.

It was clearly 2 wars. US invasion of an independent nation followed by a civil war in which we were CLEARLY on the side of the Govt. As I posted in my second post. Not going to post it again, but re-read.

As for the success of the American Civil War, thats another debate. The loss of americans in Iraq is completely insignificant compared to the loses in the Civil War - esp taking into account the % of the pop that represented. The south then rolled back rights for blacks for generations to come making the success of the Civil War and the priced paid to get there debatable. Another course of action might have been more beneficial...blah, blah, blah.
