I am watching my beloved Cubbies and Sosa just sawed off his bat down the middle and was called out for something in the middle of his bat. A run would have scored but was sent back. The bat was taken to umpire office. It didn't look corked but like some rotten piece...

Say it aint so SAMMY...

Whatever it is SOSA is not in the game so I believe he has been ejected for a foreign substance in his bat. If it is corked he will be gone for awhile- 10 days was what the last guy got(I can't remember his name). WOW if it was corked this will tarnish his homerun records and 500 club status adversely and put him in a dark shadow...

things that make you go "hmmmm"

things that make you go "hmmmm"

Remember Albert Belle busted with corked bat in mid nineties? Umps confiscated Belle's stick to cut it open later. The Indians sent a pitcher to crawl through the air duct and sneak into the umpires' locker room to swap out the corked bat for an uncorked one. They were caught because it was a different player's bat they substituted.

Then he tried to run over some trick-or-treaters with his SUV.

As far as Sammy, he really hit some monsters in that HR derby last year in Milwaukee. But that would be pretty damn low using a corked bat in an exhibition...

Sosa ejected because of corked bat

By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa was ejected from Tuesday night's game because he was believed to have cork in his bat.
The Cubs had runners at second and third with one out in the first inning against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Sosa grounded out to second base, driving in a run. His bat split upon impact and home plate umpire Tim McClelland picked up the broken half. He called the other three umpires over to examine it.

The umpires then showed the bat fragment to Cubs manager Dusty Baker and then third base umpire Lance Barksdale took the shattered bat into the umpires' room.

The runners were sent back to the bases.

McClelland told official scorer Bob Rosenberg that Sosa was ejected because he had cork in his bat. Sosa did not come out and argue the call.

Sosa entered the game batting .285 and was playing his fourth game since being activated from the disabled list.

espn reported that Sosa said he uses corks at exhibition games, and made a mistake today and pulled the wrong bat.

I was ready to call Sosa a shitbag cheater but have toned it down a little. He says he uses it for batting practice to put a show on for the fans and it got in with his normal bats. He has admitted that it was his bat. MLB has taken all his bats and will test them for cork. I think if they all come back legal it probably was a legit mistake but punishable of course. Fox Sports Net even had a picture of him in the batters box with the bat and it had a C written on the top of the barrel in the bored out top. I really hope it was a honest mistake with all the other stuff that goes on with steroids etc.....

who cares if the guy uses a corked bat. He's a known cheater anyway. He should be the poster boy for steroids. Why else would he turn down a free drug test. And don't give me the crap answer that he is protecting other players. They should run an ad with him smiling and injecting; and like the milk commercial have him saying "got steroids." These home run records and small parks are a joke. Hank Aaron would have hit 1,000 if he used steroids.

He claims he uses the corked bat to put on an exhibition for the fans. There's a problem with this story; at Wrigley the Cubs are done with BP right around 2 hours before gametime and then the visitors take BP. The gates don't open until 90 minutes before game time. So the only "fans" that see his exhibition are the grounds crew.
