don't take this the wrong way but some people might not understand what they saw with the 500 foot home runs,in a game you have a pitcher who is throwing it in at 88 or so yes not right down the cock of the plate, but a bp guy is rolling it about 70,so its just shear strength that you saw.

a 500 foot home run is like hitting a golf ball 400 yards on the drive, that was unreal. power is speed from bat and from pitcher in this type of contest power comes from strength and only half the speed.

you willnot see many 524 foot homeruns in your life i don't care who is hitting.

I was there tonite... The TV footage cannot do justice to the shots hit by Sammy ... Everyone was just in awe... we've seen Sexson hit some long shots during the last year and 1/2, but never anything close to what Sosa did tonite....

It was an amazing show... thank God we had a roof, or it wouldn't have finished.... it was pouring when we left....

Gibber, I agree 100% This guy is getting bigger by the day and his attitude seems to be changing too. Meaning he has his roid moments where he now blows up at reporters. "YOUR NOT MY DAD"? WHat's up with that? I have lost alot of respect for him since that episode he displayed.
Another thing that gets me is that MLB is using these roided up cartoon characters at a time when the game of baseball is under scrutiny for roids? That seems to be a terrible marketing technique in my eye's. Bonds and Sosa chartoon guys look bigger than the Incredible Hulk cartoon character. As long as I can win money off of them, I don't give a shit what they do. My problem is the example they are setting for kids coming up through High School and College that want to make it to the majors. They may feel that they need to take roids to make it to the next level and then we are going to have some problems. Anyway, just wanted to say that Sosa looks like he was getting bigger by the minute last night.

Nobody seems to be buying my defense of Sosa......he's SMALLER than he was 2 years ago!!!! That's a fact. Is he on steriods? I don't know, but he's not getting bigger. I also doubt he's on steroids, but I'm very biased.

He's smaller cause he was fat when he came to spring training in 1999. Like I said on the other thread; he was at least 245, maybe 250 back then. I (incorrectly) predicted he would have a falloff in 1999. Needless to say, it didn't happen.

The way I understand it is that it wasn't fat, but extra muscle from too much working out (steroids?). He lost flexibility because he was too muscular, which was reflected in a loss of speed, arm strength and overalll agility. He said he worked out less before coming to camp in 2000, and his outfield play improved significantly, which was not good at all in 99, because he lost some of that muscle and in turn total weight.

I don't buy that the only difference between then and now is just fat. He is, in fact, less muscular than in 1999. (I admit that's hard to believe, but it's true)

I've never taken steroids, but have been around quite a bit of them and I've learned to identify a guy who is on roids without a shadow of a doubt. With the theory of not being able to prove a negative, I can't say for certain by looking at a guy that he is NOT on steroids (he may not show many side effects) but I can say with certainty guys who ARE on them.

I would bet my life that the following 8 guys are on the juice:

Sammy Sosa
Mark McGwire
Jason Giambi
Bret Boone
Jeff Bagwell
Brian Giles
Todd Hundley
Trenidad Hubbard

There used to be 10 guys. The other 2 were Ken Caminiti and Jose Canseco.

You forgot Albert Belle, Brady Anderson and Luis Gonzalez. I've noticed Mike Cameron is considerably bigger than he was 3-4 years ago. We already know Belle cheated w/a corked bat. I'm sure he wouldn't have hesitated to be juiced. Plus he had the bloated look that steroid users usually have. If you see anyone who looks like they would pop if they were poked w/a pin, they probably are juicing. Steroid users retain a lot of water.

First you gotta remember that there are many different types of steroids and they all have their own side effects. Some steroids, in fact, don't increase muscle mass at all.

It's not so much in bulking up as it's very possible to put on a significant amount of lean muscle mass through weight lifting and proper nutrition. The signs come from elsewhere, most specifically in the face. Squared jaw line, yellow eyes, acne, and a few other things that I can't quite place (but I know them when I see them). Water retention, premature balding, skin fissures and Gynecomastia are also very common.

In addition, there is an exponentially increased risk of the following: muscle cramps, muscle tears, and torn tendons and ligaments.

The most severe side effect of steroid ABUSE, not use, is serious irreversable damage to the liver.

Valuest - Yeah, i agree. There's a huge list of guys that I'm "fairly certain" about, but not positive, and I wanted to stick to the guys that I'm absolutely sure about. Of the guys you mentioned, I'd say Anderson is your best bet. Again, it's all in the face. A few guys just missed the cut....lol: Matt Williams, Bonds, Roger Clemens, Armando Benitez, Carl Everett, and Jason Kendall. I wouldn't bet my life on these guys, but I would lay some serious juice (no pun intended).

Also having fits of rage that come out in different ways for different individuals. I think that is what happened to Sammy the other day calling the reporter a "MFer" and "your not my father". His face screams steroid abuse to me. This is of course my opinion, I have had people that I know use them and had the symptoms as you eluded to above also. Anyway I would place a wager on YES for Sosa using.

Are Sosa's eyes yellow? Does he have acne? Is he balding? I admit I don't watch Cubs games nearly as much as I did even 2 years ago, but I just haven't seen these things. I'm open to the idea, and I will look more carefully now, but I haven't seen it yet. You all realize he rarely misses a game due to injury and if you all are correct, he's been on steroids for years now. Cannot recall him ever having any serious muscle or ligament damage over his career.

LOL@red basketball puffy face

nighthorse - see, that's why its so difficult to list a series of side-effects. They effect different people different ways. For example, I've known guys that have 0 acne, but are juiced. Its very subjective and its very difficult to put down in words, but when you are exposed to litterly hundreds if not thousands of guys on roids, you begin to develop a very keen sense. I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but i competed in body building contests for about 7 years and when they lined 10 guys up on stage for the prelims, it would take me a matter of seconds to distinguish who was juiced and who wasn't. And guy's like me who chose not to use them, didn't stand a chance.

I know this sounds vague, but, it isnt always one distinguishable feature, rather the sum of the parts. When I look at Sosa, he may as well have a needle stickin outta his ass. To me, it's that obvious. I have 0, none, nil doubt in my mind.........

bet there is a lot of lasix and potassium going into the stomich also. sosa goes into number 3. i have done it for 8 years off for 5 and it runs rampet in baseball trust me and just as much in college baseball and i have the facts, because everywhere i played or coached it was there and not hard to get, hell even the points were easy to get. 1 1/2 20 gauge handed out like candy or in college towns always a local mom and pop place that will sell you 20 for the month, they would crack open the box and sell them 50 cents each. easier then walking out with a box of 100,put in little bag and out the door.

LENNY DYKSTRA

LENNY DYKSTRA

LENNY DYKSTRA IS MY FAVORITE PLAYER OF ALL TIME SO IT HURTS ME TO SAY THIS, BUT THAT GUY IS THE MOST OBVIOUS CASE OF STEROID USE IN BASEBALL HISTORY.

HE WAS A SKINNY CENTERFIELDER WITH THE METS. THEN HE COMES TO PHILLY AND HE IS COMPETELY JACKED. HE PUT ON 30 POUNDS OF MUSCLE IN THE OFF SEASON HE SIGNED WITH THE PHILS. AFTER THE 1993 SEASON HE COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN. HE HAD CHRONIC BACK PROBLEMS AND NEVER PLAYED MORE THAN HALF A SEASON AGAIN. BY THE TIME HE RETIRED HE HAD NO ARM LEFT. NOT THAT HE HAD ONE TO BEGIN WITH, BUT I MEAN NO ARM. EVERYBODY IN THE WHOLE CITY WOULD JOKE ABOUT IT, BUT NOBODY CARED BECAUSE HE WAS AWESOME.
