Not a play; just posting some information. South Carolina is hurting. Only going to dress 10 people and it appears Michael Carrera will miss his second straight game. Marshall is one of my favorite early go against but the short handed Gamecocks may struggle here. I thought the line was a little low... I had it at -8.

South Carolina has tried to work the ball into the paint since coach Frank Martin arrived. It?s worked a few times and not worked a lot of times.

After one of the rare games where the big men not only showed up, but dominated, Martin and the Gamecocks could use a repeat.

USC (3-3) plays its first game out-of-state and first true road game on Monday at Marshall, and will face a team that will make it feel like UNC-Asheville did when facing the Gamecocks on Wednesday. The Bulldogs were small, and didn?t have an answer for big men Laimonas Chatkevicius and Demetrius Henry.

Marshall?s smallest players are 6-foot-3. While the Thundering Herd don?t have anyone who can stare into the eyes of the 6-11 Chatkevicius, they have six players 6-6 or taller.

USC has four, and one is the little-used Reggie Theus. The Gamecocks are short-handed, likely going to Huntington, W.Va., without Michael Carrera, who missed the UNCA win with a concussion and a sprained ankle. They?ll dress 10 players and hope what worked against the Bulldogs will work against Marshall.

Chatkevicius and Henry combined for 32 points, 21 rebounds and six blocks against UNCA, turning a rough first half into a bruisingly efficient second half. Mindaugas Kacinas had four points and four boards, but he blocked two shots.

With the Herd expected to start 6-5, 6-6 and 6-9 in the post, USC?s posts need to have a second great game.

?The bigs have to have an impact on the game,? Henry said, describing Martin?s words before the UNCA game. ?We had to do a better job helping our teammates finishing baskets, rebounding, blocking shots. I think we did a pretty good job of that tonight.?

They did, especially Chatkevicius. From missing four shots three feet from the rim or closer in the first half, to finishing in the second (including two 3-pointers), Chatkevicius posted his first career double-double.

?I don?t think you saw him look like he got run over by a truck the whole second half, and he usually has that look every once in a while,? Martin said. ?I was real proud of him today. He played well for us at the end of last year, he?s played halfway decent for us here for the last seven, eight, nine days.

?He?s the one guy on our team that?s played well in the last week. For him to come out and be the presence that he was today, as a coach, that?s what you?re always looking for.?
