In all seriousness, how this all came about is kind of important. I understand fun, and think watching this dufus is funny, but the fact that he is apparently a legal and viable (in some ways) candidate has to be concerning and worth looking at.

I assume the dems had nothing to do with it, could see repub concerns trying to make something like this happen, and would like to know the real story.
......................................................

If the Republicans had anything to do with this, it could backfire on them big time.

Alot of black ppl in South Carolina.

Alot of ppl sick of the slick politics we have put up with for the last how many years.

I would like to coach Green for that debate he is promising with Dement.

There are a few things he could stick to that would make Dement look as foolish as Green is in front of a national audience.

Sen. John Kerry skips town on sails tax
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa
Friday, July 23, 2010 - Updated 2 days ago

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Isabel - Kerry?s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.

But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel?s hailing port is listed as ?Newport? on her stern.

Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven - like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau - for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?

Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.

The senior senator?s chief of staff David Wade denied the old salt was berthing his boat out of state to avoid ponying up to the commonwealth.

?The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it?s based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long-term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes, not tax reasons,? Wade told the Track.

And state Department of Revenue spokesguy Bob Bliss confirmed the senator ?is under no obligation to pay the commonwealth sales tax.?

But back in 2006, then-gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos took some flack for avoiding some $23,000 in Bay State sales tax and $1,320 in local excise taxes by berthing his motor yacht in Rhode Island. But Mihos paid just $475,000 for his 36-foot vessel Ashley and readily admitted that he used the boat at his West Yarmouth summer home.

However, according to Bliss, if Kerry berths the Isabel in Massachusetts waters within six months of purchasing the boat, there?s a ?presumption of use? and the Heinz-Kerrys would have to walk the plank and pony up to the Bay State. After six months, should the boat change its berth to, say, Nantucket, then it?s up to the state to go after them for the taxes, Bliss added.

Yesterday, the Isabel, which lists Great Point LLC of Pittsburgh, Penn., as its owner, was getting a spruce-up at the Hinckley shipyard in Portsmouth, R.I. Sources say the senior senator is demanding that some warranty work be done.

Fontaine, a protege of legendary sailboat designer Ted Hood, was tight-lipped about the owners of Isabel but he did confirm the boat was built in New Zealand. According to Internet reports, Kerry was seen in Whangarei last December inspecting his new high-seas plaything.
..............................................................

Now tell me this.

Who would you rather have in the Senate.

Someone like Al Green

Or John Kerry ?

I dont think we have to worry about Green owning a boat named of Isabel or not paying his
taxes, because he dont make no money.

:SIB

This politics stuff never ceases to amaze me.

John Kerry is a multi millionaire.

474,000 dollars in tax and 70 k savings

shrewd move dude:SIB

It shows a greed and moronic
mind freeze of these guys.

How long has John kerry been a Senator ?

I will look that up.

Kerry was sworn in as a U.S. Senator in January 1985.

Tenure for John Kerry is about 25 years.

I wonder how many years the average Senator has been in power.

I will look that up.

1972 campaign
In February 1972, after Kerry previously passed on an opportunity to run in another district, his wife, Julia bought a house in Worcester. Residence there would have required Kerry to run for Congress against an incumbent Democrat, Harold D. Donohue. Instead however, the couple rented an apartment in Lowell. The incumbent in that district, F. Bradford Morse, was a Republican who was thought to be retiring.

Counting Kerry, the Democratic primary race in 1972 had 10 candidates. One of these was State Representative Anthony R. DiFruscia of Lawrence. Both Kerry's and DiFuscia's campaign HQs were in the same building. On the eve of the September primary, Kerry's younger brother Cameron and campaign field director Thomas J. Vallely, both then 22 years old, were found by police in the basement of this building, where the telephone lines were located. They were arrested and charged with "breaking and entering with the intent to commit grand larceny", but the case was dismissed about a year later. At the time of the incident, DiFruscia alleged that they were trying to disrupt his get-out-the vote efforts. Vallely and Cameron Kerry maintained that they were only checking their own telephone lines because they had received an anonymous call warning that the Kerry lines would be cut.[45]:SIB

Although Kerry's campaign was hurt by the election-day report of the arrest, he still won the primary, narrowly beating state Representative Paul J. Sheehy. DiFruscia placed third. Kerry lost in Lawrence and Lowell, his chief opponents' bases, but placed first in 18 of the district's 22 towns.
......................................................................

My question is this.

Is this any worse than what Alvin is doing to get a victory and start his political career.

What would you do to win a election.

How much of this can we dig up on the ppl that are in the Senate right now ?

its pathetic.

US Senators Average Tenure Increasing

Over the last 20=30 years since the creation of the United States Senate the the average number of years spent in office has seen a fairly steady increase. The first decade of senators remained in office on average only 3.5 years. The were a few who remained in office from 1889 until 1899 but this was by far the exeption. Only two remained in office the full 11 years.
The following decades saw moderate increases in the time US Senators remained in office, so after 41 years the average had incresed to 5.1 years. The the longest any single senator had reamined in office was 22 years. It is notable that less than 10% of all senators at this point had served more than 10 years; 24 out of 291. The record for the longest time spent in office in 1829 was held by John Gaillard of Mississippi who remained in off 22 years which at the time was astounding.

In stark contrast to this short tenure of senators in the early years of the US, the latter decades of the 20th centery up until today have seen lenthy terms in office for many senators. Senators who finaly left office in the 1970s had remained in office an average of nearly 14 years, four time the average of the first decade of the senates existance. Some might argue that the senate had not existed long enough for the averages to be comparable, but as noted above even after 41 years in existance the average was a minisule 5.1 years. A closer look at the data shows that not only had the average increased by 300 percent, but long term office holders in recent years have been frequently spending more than 25 years in office. Seven Senators had remained in office more than 30 years. The record for the length of time in office was set at an astonishing 38 years by Senator Richard Brevard Russell of Georgia, when he finally left office in January of 1971.

The average years in office continuted to climb to 15 years in the 1980s. And the record for time in office set higher again by John Cornelius Stennis of Mississippi, who left office in 1989 after 42 contiguous years in the Senate.

Through the 1990s up to the current class of senators, the average time in office has been steadily declining, but NOT because Senators are leaving office, rather because many senators are still in office, and have been, since originally elected in the 70s, 80s, 90s, or in this first decade of the 21st century.

The record for time in office since the 1980s has continued to be pushed into the statusphere first by James Strom Thurmond, who was elected in 1956 and left office in 2003 after a total of 47 years in the US Senate.

Prior to 1992 many states attempted to limit the terms of their congressional delegations but the US Supreme court invalitated these laws in their ruling in the case of U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton in 1995, with declared term limitations in 23 states unconstitutional.

As of October 2008 there are four Senators; Robert Carlyle Byrd,
Edward Moore Kennedy, Daniel Ken Inouye, Theodore Fulton Stevens, who have been in office over 40 years. With an impressive term of 49 years in office held by Robert Carlyle Byrd of West Virginia.
The average is still hovering at nearly 14 years in office.

One might ask if the founding fathers envisioned service in the senate to be a life long calling. Lincoln might also have been suprised by the amount of time spent in office in light of his words "government of the people, by the people, for the people"
It appears we have shifted to a culture of professional politicians rather than a culture of regular people serving for a term or two, then returning to their private professions.

One might further ask, what effect this has on the laws that are created by people who expect to retire in office, somewhat immune from the effects of the laws they make.

On the issue of immigration, Senator DeMint favors requiring all illegal immigrants in the United States to return to their home countries and apply for legal residency.

He is in favor of establishing English as the country's official language. :scared

James Warren "Jim" DeMint (born September 2, 1951) has been a United States Senator from South Carolina since 2005. He had previously represented South Carolina's 4th congressional district from 1999 to 2005.

DeMint is ranked by some as one of the most conservative members of the Senate.[1]

DeMint stirred controversy during debates with Tenenbaum when he stated his belief that openly gay people should not be allowed to teach in public schools. When questioned by reporters, DeMint also stated that single mothers who live with their boyfriends should similarly be excluded from being educators. He later apologized for making the remarks, saying they were "distracting from the main issues of the debate." He also noted that these were opinions based on his personal values, not issues he would or could deal with as a member of Congress.[14] In a 2008 interview, he said that while government does not have the right to restrict homosexuality, it also should not encourage it through legalizing same-sex marriage, due to the "costly secondary consequences" to society from the prevalence of certain diseases among homosexuals.[15]
................................................................

Its obvious that Green is going to get the black vote.

Its more than obvious that gays are going to go to the polls with a vengence in favor of Green in this election.

How many gays live in South Carolina. ?

How many blacks ?

We may have a chance here.

Demint could really have a issue with this one.

All we have to do is get Green to pound this point and ask him about it in the debate.

Green - What do you think about gay people teaching in our schools and having the right
to marry ?

Demint - Uh well I dont think....... I uh

Lets talk about American rights under the protection of the Constitution.

Green - You didnt answer about gay people.

Demint - Well honestly I uh , uh uh......

Green - Have you ever had a gay person in your home ?

Demint - Well no but .... uh I uh.....

Green - Have you ever had a black person in your home ?

Demint - Well I uh.... uh.... I could ..... I uhhh

Green - Have you ever employed a gay or black person ?

Demint - Well they may have cut my grass a time or two. But I uh........... uhhhh

Gay tourism ad causes uproar in S. Carolina
State cancels contract, faces investigation after posters plaster LondonAdvertisement

The ?South Carolina is so gay? posters ran in the London subway along with gay-themed ads for Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. by Alex Johnson
Reporter

- A state employee has resigned and officials have disavowed an international advertising campaign that led to calls for an investigation of tourism posters proclaiming ?South Carolina is so gay.?

The campaign, which plastered the London subway with posters advertising the charms of South Carolina and five major U.S. cities to gay European tourists, landed with a resounding thud in South Carolina, where the issue of gay rights has long been a political flashpoint.

The advertisements were timed for London?s Gay Pride Week, which ended Saturday. The posters touted the attractions of the state to gay tourists, including its ?gay beaches? and its Civil War-era plantations.

Similar ads were posted for Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Washington, D.C., none of which reported any negative backlash. But in South Carolina, reaction to the posters ? dubbed ?the gayest ever mainstream media advertising campaign in London? by Out Now, the Australian advertising firm that designed the promotion ? was swift.

After The Palmetto Scoop, a South Carolina political blog, uncovered the promotion last week, Republican state Sen. David Thomas of Greenville protested the campaign and called for an audit of the advertising budget overseen by the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

?South Carolinians will be irate when they learn their hard earned tax dollars are being spent to advertise our state as ?so gay,?? Thomas said in a statement. :scared

The tourism department quickly said it was canceling payment of its $5,000 fee for the posters, which it said were approved by a low-level state worker who did not run the idea by senior officials. The employee, who was not identified, resigned last week, the agency said.

The population of South Carolina is 4,500,000.

...................................................................

OK conservatively ( if I can use that word without barfing up )

you figure maybe 10% are gay

that gives us 450,000 people who we need to get out to vote.

May need to think about a bus run to bring our people to the polls

Anyone got some buses they want to donate for
Alvin Green ?

REMEMBER A VOTE FOR ALVIN IS A VOTE FOR A NEW ORDER IN THE SENATE !

Right behind you
Blacks + gays + hard left-wingers + practical jokers = a majority for Alvin.

And if Al Green would do a few benefit concerts...

Buh-bye Demint. Defeated by a man with no money, no qualifications, no campaign, no nothing.

Ain't democracy wunnerful.

Honestly

I think we have a chance with Alvin for President

We could run him against Sarah Palin and Alvin
would win by a landslide.
