I'm sure many of you saw the 60 Minutes segment on South Korea. Evidently there is (surprise!) a large contingent of South Koreans who HATE the United States. In fact, many interviewed feared "W" more than they feared the infamous North Korean despot, Kim Jung Il. Oddly enough, last week I was talking to one of my students, in the U.S. for 5 years, previously born and lived in South Korea. She told me the same thing. In fact, she also told me that many South Koreans want our soldiers out of there. So now we can officially add South Korea to a list that includes, among others, Germany and France. Would anybody here be upset if we pulled all our troops stationed in aand around these areas? Do we need to worry about a modern day "Domino Theory/"

the anti-american propaganda is everywhere......pure envy is all it is....everyone hates our way of life....plus we are an easy target for those in power to blame all their problems on and this is an easy way to win support from the people....

dont know what the solution is either....maybe its time to just get out and let red China take over the whole region.....or let the commies come down and take hold over Seoul....then see how the people like it....

dont know why we keep supporting such ingratitude.....they mock us and we continue to help them.....unreal

It is unreal, we sacrifice so much to secure their freedoms. They now have a great economic democracy. If their leaders run anti American campaigns and their people treat our soldiers like crap then maybe it is time to get the hell out of their.

What would happen if we did pull out of their? IT would be one less thing to worry about. It would then be China's problem, they would have to worry about an economically strong nuclear power in their back yard.

I initially thought that it was a minority of South Koreans that were anti American. The fact that their leaders are getting elected by running anti american campaigns is really bothering to me. Have you ever heard that saying " Be careful what you ask for , you just might get it!" My official stance on this one is to get the hell out of there and take out North Koreas nukes in the process.

There are probably a lot of different stances on this issue, but it bothers me to see our soldiers get disrespected in that mannor after sacrificing so much. They should give the young generation in South Korea a little dose of reality.

South Korea is a two headed coin. You have the young generation that is anti US and the old generation that is pro U.S.
In fact on the very night 60 minutes aired there was a pro US demonstration. The older generation know from experience, the youth have never seen the past. Not so much different from anywhere. You have older convential wisdom vs youth and their feeling of being invinceble and know it all attitude which I can relate to from my youth.
Their election was recently ran with the evential winner backing youth movement and the loser pro-U.S. It was very tight election.
My guess is country is divided 50-50 however as with most countries it is the youth that is most vocal ie protest, demonstrations ect. I hope for their sake they don't have to learn the hard way and they better be careful what they wish for. I can just see the improvished North coming across border and taking what they have been deprived of all their lives.
If fact their younger generation are much like those in US and everywhere. When you are born in good times you tend to forget how these times came about and sacrifices that were made.

If that's the way she feels, then why is she living in our country? Why isn't it this simple? I love how people bash the US, but if they had a chance a vast majority would jump at the opportunity to live here over WHEREVER they are.

I love this country, and I know we make mistakes but I am sick of our leaders past and present not getting respect for the good that they have accomplished for us and the world.

DTB you right on the money. The company I recently retired from did tons of busines in NK. I was there several time was treated well.
Some old customers just came to town last week. I was invite to see them. They said just what you said. Older love us very much.
Younger have fears of war and feal that was rasied to new levels by Bushs remarks last year. The younger folks whould like to see a more open Korea. They feal its possibale as the old generals from the North die off. They also have not had to face the tough times there granddads did, and some of there Fathers.
