Anyone know the answer to this. I was stopped in Connecticut doing 79 in a 55. About 2 in the morning, empty road. Stupid, I know. Millions of kids doing drug deals and killing each other but they have to hide on the side of the road to harass a working man driving a 1993 Crown Vic.....because they figure I can afford it I guess. Anyway, I am guilty. My question is. I live in Massachusetts will the States trade info and affect my points?

stevie....

was teddy kennedy with you ?

Last winter I got a ticket for 16 over (41/25) driving home from work one evening in Wisconsin. I was nice and hoped he'd let me off but he did not. Four points and a fine. First-time offense.

I decided to show up at the courthouse rather than just pay my ticket (figured with me law school-bound it wouldn't be a bad idea to to see a real-life courtroom, regardless of the outcome for me). The DA called me up and apparently the officer made a note on the ticket that I was very polite and respectful. She offered me a reduced charge (something along the lines of failure to yield... can't remember exactly). Same fine but ZERO points. Worst-case scenario it would've been about 90 minutes of my time, so it was worth it for me.

You see that? Be very nice. One time the cops were giving these bogus tickets around the area. Everyone was getting one. They would say the same thing to everyone. Its 90 dollars but you don't get points on your licensce. I was about a quarter mile from my home and he stop me because i was driving in the middle of the road. The street was a complete mess with pot holes all over it and if no one was coming and you stayed in the center you could avoid most. He wanted to take me home because he thought i was drinking because of my eyes. I said there was no need to but he insisted so i went. Im kinda ticked off because i had to leave my car but i just went along and said nothing. Well, he pulls up in front of my house and wallah hands me the 90 dollar ticket. Explains to me about driving in the center of the street. I take the ticket and say "see you in court" Big mistake. He grabs me throws me against the car cuffs me and throws me in the back. He brings me to the station and i just keep my mouth quiet and he gives me the cutest little freezing cell. Well when i got up in the morning i got another 260 dollar ticket from another cop and i ask him what is this for? He said disorderly conduct. I asked him where did this take place and he gets all nasty and tells me to not hassle anyone at home. I said why would i do that? He says do you want me to lock you up again. i declined.
So i go to court and the cop spun the whole story around that i was drinking and gave him a hard time out in front of my house. The judge asked me why i was driving in the center lane and i told him did you ever see that street? He laugh and said yes but then told me what the cop did was a gift. I said it was if i was drinking. I lost and i lost a days pay. Now i just learn to kiss those assholes asses. And it works. I even one time in the rain kept driving with lights blaring behind me because i knew an overpass was up ahead so the cop didn't get wet. When he came up to my window i told him i saw him but i didn't want him to get all wet that is why it took me a little time to pull over. No ticket. In my younger years he would have gotten soaked and i would have gotten the ticket.

Mostley its a money thing..the state just wants your money. You should have went to court to plead not guilty. Here in Wi. you get to see the DA right after pleading not guilty and thats when you can get you ticket reduced to a non-reportable ticket. The fine is the same or a little more but you save your points and your ins costs.
Call up the DA and make an appointment. Then just ask about it being switched. As long as it isnt a major ticket I dont see why you wouldnt get it. They get there money and dont have to show up for court and you save your ins costs.

So far Ive seen it work this way 5 times. 3 for the wifes son and twice for mine.

in the county where I live, if you get a speeding ticket, it's 20 bucks plus 135 for court costs. If you run a red light or stop sign or some other driving infraction, it's a 10 dollar fine and 135 for court costs. I'm not sure why they break it down like that, but that's how it is.

some solid advice in this thread. The original post does not indicate on what the ticket was based (i.e. radar, laser, etc....). If you have the ability to request a supporting deposition (usually it can be done on the back of the ticket), do so. That will provide you, in detail, what the officer's basis for stopping you was. Obviously it is good to know this BEFORE you go in to fight your ticket. Plus, if they fail to provide you with the supporting deposition, then you have a basis to move for the dismissal of the ticket.

All that being said, a speeding ticket based on visual observation or pacing with the officer's speedometer, is the easiest one to beat. Radar is harder, but can be beaten. If it is laser, you are wasting your time. You WILL be found guilty, and your only prayer is if the cop doesn't show up on the Hearing date. If he shows, you are toast.
