One of my dreams is to own my own sports bar. I guess my love of sports and hanging out with good friends give me this passion. Growing up watching Cheers only added to the idea. I have been tossing around the idea for some time now and am thinking of doing it in the next couple of years. I already have 2 fast food establishments and it keeps me busy but I really want to give the sports bar idea a shot. I am a risk taker and I don't want to look back and regret not giving it a shot. The bars I like to hang out are small "hole in the wall" bars with a good "regular" base. I know the bar business is risky but an advantage for me would be that I do not have to live out of the bar. The money made would be put right back into the bar. I would like some of you who have had experience in this to chime in and give some advice or pointers. Any input would be appreciated. Let me know what you guys like in a sports bar, and what you don't like. This is a place where I figured there would be a ton of people who love to go to sports bars so maybe I can get some good feedback.

Thanks
CM

I would look at the area you are in and see if their isn't any establishments of the sort, and if their isn't it would definatley be worth a shot. Every town loves a nice sports bar, and with the closing down of many business's the past few years because of the economy you might be able to take advantage of a local need/want for a sportsbar where friends and strangers alike can share a good mean and some cocktails watching some sports...buddy of mine did this a few years back here in San Diego, his place Sports City Cafe is still booming as he established it when the little area around UC San Diego was still developing and was pretty barren except for high school students...soon enough a big AMC theater opened near by and his place started recieving alot of attention, and of course he had all his college gambling boys coming in to watch their action and "drink it away" after a tought night lol...I say go for it

don't know how much, if any, help it would be, but there is a nice long piece on sports bars in the 2/7/05 issue of sports illustrated. They rank the 25 top sports bars in the u.s., and go thru the history of sports bars as well; interesting if nothing else
