Are people in Tennessee unhappy with Fullmer? He has done a nice job there overall, except for getting them to the next level. Spurrior seems like a strange choice to go to Nebraska from both sides...he doesn't seem like a "Husker" kind of fella. Talk about changing philosophies. Clemson doesn't seem like a high profile enough position for him. He definitely needs to get back to school, so to speak. Maybe LSU, if Saban departs? That would be interesting. All these schools probably have the money to interest him.

I think there is no chance that Spurrier would go to Nebraska, the weather would not be to his liking. I think he will sit out a year and then take over a program down South, if he stays in College then I would say Bama (if Shula struggles again next year), South Carolina (the heat will be on Holtz this year to produce), Florida (Zook bought some time this year) and a outside shot would be FSU (how much longer can Bobby coach?). If he elects the pro route then I would have to say that the Dolphins would more than likely be his first choice.

Could be way off - but if he sits out a year Penn St might be open in 2005  ??? They will need a huge name to replace such an icon.

I think that Spurrier is way overrated and all these people wanting him to come coach hometown u are nuts. I think any worth their salt could win coaching at any college in the state of Florida, the state is a recruiting goldmine.

Well, if what is being said is true, his resigning, I would be VERY s:shocked: if he took a job in the SEC other than Fla.. From what I have heard in the past is that he has many friends at the University Fla. and Alumni, and would not like to be in a position of competing or harming them in any way.
Neb., I agree with other post, toooo cold, he likes warm weather, heard he is an avid golfer:yawn: .
If I had to guess, he will take a year off, but for fun, lets kick the hornets nest, how about Miami Hurricanes. Good luck today, Buck

It wasn't his fault that Washington was about as sorry a squad as any this year.

If I was Pat Ramsey, I'd also quit with Spurrier and save my health down the road. I've never seen an offensive line offer SO LITTLE protection. Poor guy got MURDERED all year.

No way would he fit in Neb. His flinging the ball all over the field just does not go with the smashmouth football that the Huskers play. Not sure if Spurrier knows much about the wishbone, or the option.
I am not much of a Spurrier fan myself, kind of Like Jimmy Johnson, or Phil Jackson. I could have coached those Dallas teams to Superbowls, or the Bulls and Lakers to championships.
Spurrier's stay in Washington proved that no matter how good you coach, you have to have the players. I wonder how Jackson would do coaching a bad NBA team, or Jimmy Johnson would do with a bad NFL team. We will never know, because it will never happen.
If Spurrier resigned, and forfeited all that cash, he must have something pretty sweet in the works.

The inside scoop

The inside scoop

Okay, I work for a major Metropolitan Washington DC newspaper so here's the inside scoop....

Steve Spurrier called Dan Snyder today and offered his resignation. Snyder accepted it. Shortly later, Steve Spurrier talked to his agent and found out that he would only get about 10million out of his 25 million 5 yr contract b/c only 2 yrs were fulfilled. In turn, Spurrier called up the Washington Post shortly later and said he did not quit and these rumors are false. Seems like Spurrier is just trying to weasel his way out of not getting a payday. Anyway, he's out of the redskins organization and he will only see 10 million of that 25 million dollar contract.

Good I never liked him anyway!!!

How right you are crazy888, but it may not have been his coaching that did it, rather the stupidity of the minnesota vikings with the The Herschel Walker trade.
I agree though, he did get quite succesful after a very discouraging first season.
Funny how 14 years later, the vikings still are bone heads.
