Well boys, it's been another great football season. Great playoffs, and my question is...wtf is going to happen next year?

Anyone have thoughts on this?

I always joke with my buddies that "the NFL is going to be defunct in 5 years." I made that statement 3 years ago, and I hope I'm not correct.

Certainly some things to go over.

I have a lot of stuff to say, and it's going to be all over the place, so bear with me.

1. The league is a frickin' cash cow. Obviously we all know this. This was the highest rated SB, with relatively small markets involved. I do acknowledge that both teams have a fan base spread nationally, but then last year's SB is more telling. Indy and NO, basically teams that are not spread out all over the place, and another extremely highly rated SB. That said, how much is too much? I was joking that one day we'd see the day of Tuesday night football. Sure enough, we got it this year, granted it was an extreme circumstance, and they didn't want to cannibalize the brand, but MNF puts teams out quite a bit, then you add another day...Also, since getting their own network, the Saturday football tradition has been ruined for me. I enjoyed 3 games on Saturday, now we're reduced to 1.
2. Lockout? I think DeMaruice Smith is going to be a lot stingier than Gene Upshaw was. I don't consider myself to be a "union guy" but at the same time, you're asking these players to play 2 more games, with few concessions.
3. What will an 18 game season do? At face value, more football = better for the fan. But is it? You have a lot of teams now that are out of the playoffs 2/3 of the way through the season, and vice versa. You'd hate to see some sort of situation where the last 3-4 games of the season are Pro Bowl-esque.
4. It's a bad economy. All the other sports have suffered, yet the NFL pushes the envelope on this one by adding 2 more games. The commish talks about "value" of tickets, when the owners just see more $$$ coming in.
5. I say a lockout is certain. :violin:

I understand this comes off as anti NFL, and some ways it is. I'd hate to see it all unravel because they couldn't leave well enough alone. (oh yeah, changing the draft really irked me as well)

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this...

I feel very confident that football will be here come september. I dont think a lockout will happen, atleast not this year. I listen too sportstalk on radio, tv, computer and a lot of ppl who are much more educated then me on the subject feel the same way.

these guys will figure it out. I probably sound very naive saying this, but they know how much it means too this country and to the U.S. ppl to have a football season. they will figure out someway too get it done, that I feel certain. They will take a huge PR hit on both sides if they really cant figure out how to divide their billions of dollars. PPl will be disgusted, and they know that. May not be what everyone wants on both sides, but some sort of compromise will get done IMO.

if I am wrong, well :scared ....i dunno what i would do with no fantasy football, sportsbetting on nfl, and MNF.
