A top 10 preseason appears to be warranted. Sure looks like Ole Miss has the players to win the SEC west next year, particularly due to unproven QBs throughout the division. We'll see if Nutt can steer the ship better than his track record would indicate.
As for a program on the rise, I don't have any faith in Nutt over the long run. His postseason record is poor. His big game record is poor and his teams were consistently mediocre at Arky despite some nice local talent falling in his lap.
I think you probably ought to check your facts on Nutts 'big game' record. Nutt's record against top-five opponents to 5-8 as a head coach. Which really is pretty solid when you factor in all five wins, Nutt's team entered the game unranked, and four of the wins came on the road.
I don't know his bowl record, but Nutt's biggest faults is losing to teams that he shouldn't lose to, like losing to Wake Forrest on the road and at home to Vandy in 2008.
So did Nick Saban. Nick actually recommended Nutt to LSU as his replacement in 2005.
I'll just say watchout for Ole Miss in '09. They looked excellent in their last bowl game against Texas Tech... can't help Nutt's previous bowls.
SEC might be down a bit IMO. I still am shocked Fullmer and Tubberville were run out of town for coaches who I consider inferior, but time will tell. Lane isn't his daddy and taking Iowa State's coach Chizek-sp? for Auburn? I guess it's win now or else for most teams.
