Between The Hedges
Thought about buying my infant son a couple of hundred dollars worth of cheap stock to stash away for the next 20 years or so. If it goes bust no big deal. My question is if there is anyway to do this rather than signing up for stock trade site. I know its silly and I am ignorant when it comes to stock, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

To add my two cents: I think your idea is awesome and will be much better in the long run than buying him more toys. That being said, I would go ahead and set up an account for him (online or brick and mortar -- Scottrade has both for conveneience). This way for his brithday and christmas you can just ask people to write him a small check instead of buying more toys to clutter up your house. I have an 18 month old, and we reuest that the grandparents buy him only one toy and any other money that they want to spend go into his savings.

You probably want to consult with someone about education savings plans, Roths, etc. to see what fits your needs best.

Happy parenting! it's a wild ass ride!
