Anyone had a stomach flu? Man, what a miserable weekend, although I did win about $200 overall.

Felt bad at work Friday morning. Was in the bathroom like 4 times and then threw up before lunch for about 10 minutes.

Basically haven't eaten a real meal since Thursday night and only eaten a little bit of soup and some fruit.

Had diarrhea about 30 times, literally, since Friday morning.

How long is this going to last and any tips? I guess I know about....keep hydrated, drink water/juice, eat stuff like bananas, bread, applesauce, gelatin, and let time heal it, etc...

I wanted March Madness and Spring Fever. Instead I get Stomach Flu. This SUCKS.

Had the same thing about a month ago. For 36 hrs straight i shit "liquid brown water". No turds just water. had 102 temperture. Had a bad cough and didnt eat anything for 48 hrs and all i did was sleep and shit.

I ate crackers which helped me with a glass of coke. That seemed to soothe my stomach.

Thanks.

Yeah, same for me...literally brown piss coming out of my ass about 30 times in 3 days.

I think its just about gone. Can't tell for sure, but I woke up about an hour ago and things feel sort of back to normal.

I'm guessing I had a "72 hour bug" since its been EXACTLY 3 days. I felt it at 8am Friday and its now 8am Monday. Really nice that it happened on a weekend and now I can go back to work, rather than use some sick leave and enjoy the conf. tourneys...

Thats ok, I just want to be completely better by the big dance.

Still feel hungry, tired, weak, and kind of out of it but I think the worst is behind me.

Thanks again.

It sounds like the norovirus that has been plaguing our area as well. It seems that it is a new strain that has attacked nationwide.

"The size of the outbreaks and their severity suggested that an especially nasty bug had arrived. In the past, norovirus infections routinely passed after a day and fever was rare. This year, specialists said, some patients were sick for three or four days and developed fevers.

??We have received more reports involving fever and longer duration of symptoms,?? said Jan Vinj?, a CDC virus specialist and one of the discoverers of the new strain. ??I have not had norovirus, but I cannot imagine how you can survive four days of vomiting.??http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/03/new_norovirus_l.html

About all you can do, since it is a virus, is treat the symptoms. Stay hydrated and on clear liquids until you've been vomit-free for 24 hours. Then slowly reintroduce solid foods, i.e. BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast (dry). Absolutely avoid dairy products and anything fried or greasy!

One home remedy I've been advised of is ginger. I have had patients swear to the benefits of drinking ginger tea (brewed from ginger root) or nibbling at crystallized ginger, either of which can be found at the grocery store.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
VA,
What do you know about the Tamaflu prescription our doctor gave our family, after one member was diagnosed positive for influenza?
Also, does the sliced ginger from the sushi bar work?:mj07: :SIB

Franky, I'd probably have taken it myself if someone in my household tested positive for influenza. Tamiflu is an actual treatment for the flu which can reduce the symptoms and keep others in the household from developing it. I get my flu shot every year but am well aware that it does not provide protection from all strains; only the ones addressed in the annual formulation. The vaccine is prepared each year from a different "recipe" based upon the most prevalent strains expected. If the actual strain(s) encountered is not in the vaccine, Tamiflu is about the only thing you can do for yourself; that is, if treatment is started within 24-48 hours of infection/exposure. Any longer than that and it's probably a waste.

As far as the ginger on the sushi bar.... probably, but who knows? I found this on the American Cancer Society website so I think it's probably legit but it doesn't specifically address that type of ginger.
"The root of the ginger plant has been used in cooking and as a herbal remedy since ancient times. The ancient Greeks ate ginger wrapped in bread to prevent nausea from a huge feast. For many centuries, Chinese sailors have taken ginger to avoid sea sickness. A proverb from ancient India maintains that everything good can be found in ginger. It has been used as a spice in cooking for centuries. Its traditional role in herbal medicine has been as a remedy for nausea, motion sickness, heartburn, vomiting, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite. "

**********Warning********** if you have a weak stomach do not read this.

oh man... I had that about a month ago. NOT FUN. I came home from work early because my 2 yr old had it, then my wife got it and called me and tells me she is sick and i need to get home.

so i get home at 2pm on a friday, feeling 100% fine too. i take care of everyone, sh*t and puke flying everywhere all day long.

11pm that night I was sitting on the couch, went to the throne to do my nightly duty and while I was sitting there pinching a big ole loaf.. it was like someone pulled a plug on me.
all of a sudden i was crapping out brown explosions, THEN as i am sitting there going ... oh man this sucks... PUKE CITY comes rolling up and belts me across the face with a 2x4. No bigger dilemma in life than sitting on the crapper leaking brown p*ss out your @ss and feeling puke come rising up your throat.

what do you do? sink or crapper?
puke on the floor and crap in the toilet or puke in the sink and sh*t on the floor?

then for the next 3 days it was nothing but the same for the whole house.

i even managed to crap all over my bed the next afternoon because i fell asleep and still managed to sh*t my brains out.

i ate white bread and drank water. that was it. i did try and drink some gatorade to speed the rehydration process... bad idea.

i had Fierce Lime gatorade.

i was sh*tting and leaking green sh*t for days.

just wait though... once you finally "run dry" you are going to start getting cramps now that you can eat a regular meal. you won't be able to crap for about 4 days. it is NOT going to be fun. i had to loosen my belt 2 notches bigger by the third day. then when i finally could use the crapper normally again i started to cry because it felt like it was coming out sideways.
