My argument is that the NL West is a division with at least three very good teams and two decent teams that have battled and will battle each other the entire year. It is highly competitive unlike the American East where there are ONLY two teams in contention!

I don't see how you can call San Diego and Colorado decent teams. They both have losing records, just like Toronto and Baltimore. If you ask me, those 4 teams wash. I'll give you Tampa Bay but they have been playing much better lately. And San Francisco is 7 games above .500. I consider that above avg. Very Good? Hardly

The third place team in the American East is 12 games back while the last place team in the NL West is 12.5 games back!

Perhaps that is more an indictment of Arizona's failure to create separation within their division then a reflection of the AL Easts' mediocrity. If the top dog in one division isn't as good as the top dog in another, it only stands to reason that there will be that much more competition.

Basically I think its absurd to believe that the Red Sox are better than the DBacks because they have a better record

Why is it absurd? I'm using stats, won/lost, etc. The same stats you're using to show team strength in either division (won-lost). Besides, each teams' games arent confined solely to the division in which they are grouped. We've played Seattle a number of games already and the White Sox. You've played Atlanta exactly 3 times and Cincinnati none. Matter of fact, Arizona has loaded up on poor Philadelphia to the tune of 7 games.

Bottom line is i do not disrespect Arizona. They are a very good team. But to say that the AL East is "overhyped" and "overrated" and to say that the NL West is better TOP to bottom is ludicrous when Arizona stands at 39-24 and the Red Sox are flirting with .700 ball with the Yankees right behind. The D-Backs also boast the 1-2 punch of RJ and Schilling yet BOTH the Boston and Yankee pitching staffs have better team ERAs, not to mention better team batting. And that is without Manny Ramirez in our lineup for the last month.
