Strongest Plays for Round 1 of the NCAA tournement

I will post each of my Round 1 selections in this thread. I'm looking at about 8 games for this opening round. My first play of the tourney will be....

Montana +4 for the 1st half

Montana has played 29 this season. They have trailed at halftime just 5 times. Only ONCE have the been behind more than 4 points. The first game of the year on the road at Boise St, they trailed by 6. The Griz spotted in-state rival Montana St. 3 and 4 in their 2 head to head match-ups. They also trailed Idaho St and Drake by 4 this season. I think Montana has a chance to upset Nevada, but their habit of blowing big first half leads makes this a very strong play.

Iona +8

Plan and simple. HUGE advantage in the back-court for the Gaels, not to mention 4 Seniors on the floor to start the game. I wonder if they packed their slippers?

Pacific +8

I like them in this spot for some of the same reasons I like Iona. 3 Seniors starting and their back-court averages more points per game than B.C. They also have the advantage in forecourt
scoring as well. Don't forget. Texas A&M , who many are high on in this opening round, was beaten by the Tigers earlier this season.

Alabama +3

No question Marquette has the back-court edge in this match-up However, Bama is BIG. They get the bulk of their production out of the front-court. If Steele can work the inside out game and knock down his wide open shots, I believe Bama can pull off the mild upset. . I was a bit surprised to see the Golden Eagles open up as only a 1.5 point favorite. Line now up to 3. I'll take the points .

Wisc Milwaukee +3

Oklahoma is 6-4 its last 10 games and have only 2 victories by more than 1 point! The Sooners are just 5-12 SU in the first round of the NCAA tournament in their past 17 appearances. This game should come right down to the wire. Both squads have balanced scoring in the front and back court and Senior leadership. Again, Ill take the points.

Wow! what a game between B.C and Pacific. Thought I had that one wrapped up twice! Oh well, On to my last selection for Thursday.

Under 138 S.D.State/Indiana

This total is too high. I liked it when the line opened at 132.5 I've slowly watched it rise and decided to pull the trigger. I don't know much about th Aztecs, but I do know they have one of the better defenses in the Mountain West. Add that to Indiana's tough Big 10 D, and the fact they haven't been able to hit the broad side of a barn in recent weeks, and it's under city!

Off to a great tourney hitting a rather large first half wager on Montana. I had planed on making the under in the S.D. State/Indiana game my final wager for todays card. However..........


Under 129 Texas A&M/Syracuse

Feeling a pretty good vibe today on my selections. Before A&M's loss to Texas in the Big 12 semis, they hadn't given up more than 60 points in 8 straight games. This will be the first look at the tough 1-3-1 zone defense of the Orange for the Aggies. Syracuse allowed just 60 points in their NCAA 1st round overtime loss last year.

Under 112 Air Force/Illinois added selection

I added this just for a small play. As you can tell from my avitar, I'm an Illini homer and I follow them very closely. They lead the Big 10 in scoring "D" and are going up against a squad that gives up less than 54 points per contest. This total opened up at 109 and now the public( 83% ) has taken it up to 112. I know this will be a VERY LOW scoring game, but for the most part it's just a fade play.

Whats up Mully. Been at work most of the day. Thanks for posting the Montana 1st half. A nice win.

I'm 3-0 so far. I almost feel guilty for winning on Boston College. Tough loss with Iona. A bullshit cover if there ever was one. I had BC big. Also got Wichita State really easy.
I've got Iona +8, from you, and I've got Duke really big. If I get neither, I'm almost even. If I get one or both....it will be a great day indeed. Looking to take a few more things smaller though.

Bought a 1/2 pt on that UNC-W game. SOOOO glad they didn't call a foul on that last second....

Wish Wilmington had won. Killed a 12-team parlay (a lot of ML's) that already had 5 teams down, including Zags ML who always win but never cover.
