A total play with some potential IMHO.......
Wiz/Nuggets o 188' (Oly)
Here's why:
THE INTANGIBLES
__________________________________________________
-The Wiz are 2' games back of Char fight'n for that final 8 spot in the playoff picture.
-Wiz have "hopes" of getting MJ back by Sunday when they go face Vince and company in Toronto. I think "hope" is what drove them to win Monday in Oakland.
-The Wiz showed us some "heart" pulling out the win Monday night......I feel that carries over into tonight's game at Denver.
-Whitney's been play'n well as evidenced by his 20 off the bench on Monday. Rip seems to be hold'n the fort as they wait on MJ's return.
-On the Nugget side of the ball ya have to feel the INJURED McDyess will see more "pine time" and less than the 25 minutes he did on Monday night as Denver was shorthanded.
-McDyess scored only 1 point in 25 minutes Monday against the Pistons as Hardaway rode out the second of a two game suspension for the TV monitor toss! The Nuggets still managed 91 points Monday with a suspended Hardaway and an injured McDyess!!
-Monday....Arroyo replace Hardaway and only scored 6 points as a starter. Tonight....we get Hardaway and his 10 pt/gm average back.
-With Hardaway back in the lineup.......Denver has a 3-ball threat!! Without him in their last 2 games the Nuggets are 0-11 from behind the arc!! Hardaway should open the interior up for some scoring tonight as the Wiz have to find Hardaway on the perimeter.
-Leonard and Harvey have looked good coming off Denver's bench putting in quality offensive minutes.......while McCloud and Howard<----(with a 19 pt/gm average in the last 6) have been draining their buckets.
-Mengke Bateer....while not putting up points for Denver.....is good for 4-5 fouls helping the Wiz in their effort to score with FT's. He may not see the floor as much as he did on Monday with Denver's short bench.....but I'm sure he'll get a few "hacks" in trying to stop White and Haywood down in low tonight.
All these intangibles point to the over......BUT the numbers give me even MORE reason to like this over.
THE NUMBERS
__________________________________________________
-Hear this.....since MJ went down on Feb. 20 Wash has averaged 92' pts/gm and since the "big" Mav's trade on Feb. 13 the Nuggets are averaging 98' pts/gm!! WOW....I wouldn't believed that if I hadn't a calculated it up myself.
-In their last 5 games...........
Wiz........Nugs
99..........91
80..........76
103.........102
75..........102
99..........78
*Wiz aver. 91.2 and Nugs 89.8 in last 5
-I think that's why the linesmen have this one below the 190 mark. BUT....you have to consider clunkers by Rip @ Port and the entire Wiz team @ the LAC....along with the Hardaway suspension for two games has these numbers hide'n where ya oughta be play'n this one.
-As for the seasonal averages per game........
............Wiz.........Nugs
Pts. scored 92'.........93
Pts. allowed 94..........99 <----here's the biggy
*Points allowed by both teams really favors the OVER tonight.
THE TRENDS
__________________________________________________
-Trends are a "wash" for this one.....
Wiz are over at a 5-2 rate in their last 7
Nuggets are under at a 5-2 clip in the last 7
-BUT that Nugget's trend doesn't tell you that in the last two ganes Denver essentially had NO deep ball threat as Hardaway sat them out.
CONCLUSION
__________________________________________________
-The Nuggets are "loosey-goosey" with nothing to play for except upset wins, team continuity for next year and personal stats as their season comes to an end on April 17th at Minn.
-On the other hand....the Wiz have shown some "heart" and "hope" with a POSSIBLE Sunday MJ return. BUT....they MUST to keep contact with Charlotte...or...MJ's return doesn't amount to diddly!!
-Thus, a "spirited" game tonight....that the Wiz must win.....along with the return of a "rested" Hardaway in a spoiler role........has OVER written all over it....IMHO.
-If McDyess can give us some good scoring minutes tonight....fine let him get it on. If not....sit him and let H & H go knock'n 'em down!
