Cards will start five lefties against Cubs Lester

The Cardinals spent all spring trotting out a lineup like the one they intend to use this season until production tells them otherwise, so there's no reason to change it for opening night at Wrigley Field or for Cubs lefty Jon Lester.

He's going to get all the lefties the Cardinals have.

The Cardinals will start five lefties for Sunday's Major League Baseball opener. There will two lefties on top, two lefties ahead of Adam Wainwright, and one lefty planted right in the middle. The only significant wrinkle from the lineup that manager Mike Matheny sent out for Friday's exhibition game at AutoZone Park is a change at cleanup. He shifted back to the flip-flop that the lineup had during spring -- Jhonny Peralta at cleanup against lefties and Matt Adams shifting down to No. 5.

On the Cubs side, Joe Maddon is following through on his intent to bat the pitcher eighth in his first opening night as a National League manager.

Here are the lineups for opening night lineups for the two archrivals:

CARDINALS

1. Matt Carpenter, 3B

2. Jason Heyward, RF

3. Matt Holliday, LF

4. Jhonny Peralta, SS

5. Matt Adams, 1B

6. Yadier Molina, C

7. Kolten Wong, 2B

8. Jon Jay, CF

9. Adam Wainwright, P

The Cardinals finalized their 25-man roster with a series of official moves this morning. All of the moves had been previously revealed. The lineup was just officially submitted with Jaime Garcia and Tommy Pham on the disabled list and Pete Kozma and Randal Grichuk on the bench.

CUBS

1. Dexter Fowler, CF

2. Jorge Soler, RF

3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B

4. Starlin Castro, SS

5. Chris Coghlan, LF

6. David Ross, C

7. Mike Olt, 3B

8. Jon Lester, P

9. Tommy La Stella, 2B
