6-11 -1*
How can you go 6-11 and lose very little 1 *box . Stupidity jumps out 1st...stupid ass sounds better...probably many of you here could come out with many other adjectives and verbs..no discipline...as a former coach a good analogy would be...shooting 3's from all over, cross court passes, reaching in fouls, fouling the shooters...etc...now I coached for over 20 years and never ever did those things...I had great teams that I stole so much knowledge from other coaches...think I had 2 or 3 original plays or offenses in my life.... I had discipline....won 95% of my games on the last possession, last shot..All my fellow buddies{ coaches} called it luck...it wasn't luck...I stole from Hubie Brown and Al McGuire..end every practice with a final play situation...not suicide drills....with 10 seconds left we knew what we were doing...all we needed to do was execute the play...if it goes in we win..if it doesn't and we executed right that's all I could ask for.... so what does all this have to do with handicapping basketball games...really not sure....think I'm all over the place playing games I think I know a lot about....but should not be putting anything down on suggesting to anyone to play a side... I looked back on this week...from last Sunday to today... I did very well in the *'s ..damn...really well...so this morning I got up and went back and looked at all my plays...it didn't take long to see a pattern....all my strong plays won and many of my 1 or 2 boxes plays lost...so I looked at all my strong..

Yest
3-1 +14*'s and was so lucky with Siena and Rice pulling out wins at the last seconds..''
Friday..1-0 +3
Thur....3-1 +9
Wed....2-0 +9
Tues...1-0 +4
Mon...1-0 +5
Sunday DNPlay

total 11-2 +43*'s
I am not putting a feather in my hat..just 3 weeks ago lost 3 or 4 days in a row strong plays...Margellus came in my post and said something about my strong plays..."what's up"...
Doing what we do here can be real humbling sometimes...I say this all the time...if we all knew what we were doing we would be in the Cayman Islands sitting on a beach...we don't know everything..why is my financial adviser who has all my 401K's or B's still working..he is older then me...if he knew what the hell he is doing he should be sitting right next to me in a beach chair drinking a "bud".
Anyway will stop playing all the Sun,MAAC,Conf USA ,etc small games....it will be hard to do though...its like looking in the candy store window and wanting about 10 different candies....wait...this new generation doesn't look in candy stores...most of you here don't even know what a candy store is....let me switch that analogy..."like going into an "Apple Store" and wanting an laptop, phone, upgrade, etc
So please ignore all the small plays....and in a week I will forget this post and play about 10 games...so ignore please....
back later with some MAAC games...sorry for all the rambling on...

T glad you got to see Evans....only watched him play 2 or 3 times...my buddy from North Texas saw him last yr..predicted he was one of the best players he ever saw vs North Texas...think he had 30 pts and went 12-12 from the FT....think he will be in the NBA next yr....and he is only a soph...wow..

Your insight on any and all games is cherished by most everyone to stumble into the Mad Jacks site. :0008

It is also this type of write up that brings us back to earth. We all know you as a sincere man with terrific hoops knowledge. I thank you as does everyone here for your continued input.

Golf, Girls and Gambling are the 3 great mindfux of life. We will never figure them out? but damn they are fun.

And yep, I am married? with 2 daughters. :0corn:toast:

Good words Box. I know I hate Saturdays as there are too many lined games. It's hard to narrow down to plays you will post. I either will limit what conf/teams I just cap on Saturdays or forget Saturdays all together. from now on. It's always good to take a step back and re-eval things. gl

smax..thank you for the kind words...I was 2-3 with the 3G's..now down to 1-3 and golf wasn't one of them.. I do play a mean racquetball though....and have 3 daughters...in fact one is flying down from Philly this afternoon to spend 2 weeks here in Austin......with her new baby.....and my job today is putting the crib together....and like my one and two *'s I am not too mechanically challenged...thank god my son is coming over to help...enjoy your daughters..how old are they?

Hawkeye....I have the most respect for you....how you pick over-unders amazes me....it seems like the ones I like go opposite....yest. if I had any brains would have played over in the Rider-Quinn game...both teams can score and both teams can't play any defense..the total is over 153.....final score Rider won 110 -105 { I think}..and your right about Saturdays....over the years have lost so many more games on that day.....need to start shopping at "Apple". thanks for the kind words....

Also want to thank IE for posting all those news clips and updates in his posts...love reading them....have saved me many times from avoiding games or playing them more....do appreciate them big time...think I speak for many here at MJ's...please keep them coming....

Words of wisdom. Discipline is a vital component to this game. No matter how informed, how skilled, any capper without discipline is destined to fail.

:iagree: WELL SAID.

BOX, I ALWAYS ENJOY READING YOUR ANALOGIES BUT THIS AMs POST GAVE ME GOOSE BUMPS MAKING ME THINK BACK TO ALL THE PRACTICES WORKING ON THAT GAME SITUATION PLAY IN FINAL SECONDS. YOU HAVE SEEN IT YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT WITH THE TEAMS THAT CONSISTENTLY WIN THOSE TYPE GAMES NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST GOOD TEAMS BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE PREPARED FOR THE SITUATION.

YOU STOLE INFORMATION FROM 2 OF THE BEST. I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING IN SOME CAMPS RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL THAT HUBIE BROWN ATTENDED AND HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME IS 2ND TO NONE...GREAT GUY TOO.

KEEP UP GOOD WORK AND I TOO AM AMAZED AT HOW WELL HAWKEYE CAPS THOSE TOTALS...I SEEM TO ALWAYS PICK WRONG SIDE ON THOSE SO I DON'T DO THEM :142smilie

AND YES I DID HAVE BEER, WINGS AND PIZZA PACKED IN THE LUNCH PAIL...WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU HAVE ON A SAT OF HOOPS AND GAMBLING :toast:

I felt the need to share a little bit here this morning since we are one of the greatest gambling communities anywhere!!!!!!!!!

As with most of you guys, I always enjoy reading Box's posts, whether just for his wonderfully misspelled storytelling or for his greatly appreciated insight on the wagering side of things.

Box's daughter works at Disney and lives here in Orlando. A few years back he was heading into town with his family to spend some time with her. It was during football season and we met up, had some wings and a beer....or 5 and we spent a few hours just bullshitting about everything and anything. What you read in his posts doesn't even do him justice in person. This guy is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. I would say that "we" had a fantastic time that afternoon, but I can only speak of my experience.......he may have had a completely different opinion of me, but that doesn't change what I have said. The guy is as solid as they come and if any of you ever have the opportunity to meet him in person do not pass on that opportunity.

Love ya man!

Now let's go get us some BOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of candy stores......

Dating myself, but quick story....(yeh, I'm old)

Me and 4 young friends would splurge once a month and pool our cash resources. Usually we came up with about 50 cents to a dollar.

We would go to the local candy store that had every penny candy imaginable from flavored red wax lips to paper ribbons of button candy.

We would take turns picking, bag it up, go to a picnic shelter
in a nearby park and indulge in a sugar high.

Usually it was a Saturday and the nearby ball diamond afterwards, always needed instant players. We made sure we carried our gloves with us in those days.....never knew when a ball game might pop up.

Brings back the memories, circa 1962.

Race..thanks for the kind words.. I enjoyed that afternoon at Wings..and my daughter is still going out with her boyfriend that you met....hope all is well on Orlando...Becca is still at the Grand-Floridan and loves working for disney....

OK,I just wrote all about only playing strong plays.....but there is a problem... I don't know if its a strong play until after I handicapp the game and see what the line is....if the line is way off then I make it a strong play...ie... Siena-Marist yest.. on Friday nite I handicapped the game...I had it at Siena -9 or -10...the line opened at -6.5... I like that and made it a strong play....I was off because Marist led up to the final 2 minutes and saints won by 7 pts and pulled out a win by half a point...yes, lucky....same as Rice game....Zaga I had at -9 and the line was -4...loved Zaga and they were in control thru out the game and won by 10....Valpo was -17 and were never in the game...they ended up winning by 10..terrible play on my part...

So today have a few games...but no strong plays..so do I not post any...damn.. I have too...so forget what i said before....am going to the Apple store not candy store....small plays

Niagara +5.5 over Iona **
Purple already beat Iona 74-58...Iona is 9-5 in 2nd place..they will not catch Monmouth who is 12-2 for the top seed...Purple will play the top 2 seeds so it doesn't make a big difference..but Purple are dangerous...they can score but give up 78 pts a game...but Scott on offense has scored 18,20,20,18 and 20 in last 5 games and Dukes has been on fire scoring 16,29,16 and 17...Iona had won 5 or 6 in a row until Siena beat them the other day....talent wise Iona should win this by 15 pts but think Purple gives them a game...

St Peter -4.5 over Manhattan **
Really liked this game a few days ago until watched on ESPN friday nite Jaspers almost beat Monmouth...Jaspers led for 38 minutes and lost the game in the final 2 minutes...Peter was playing so good..is in 3rd place on MAAC..then they hit a wall and lost 3 or 4..two of those losses was in back to back OT games...they are coming off a 30 pt win over Qunn..they beat Manhattan 84-70 at home....last yr they beat them twice...and in those wins almost all of Peters starters are back..Welton,Wyche,Port,Chazz,etc...Peter plays tough defense and gives up only 63 pts a game ranking them 18th in the country...Turner had 30 pts in their last game vs Peter...and he is on fire too.. Waterman is tough and Jaspers really played good vs Monmouth..that scares me a little...Monmouth has a lot more offense then Peter has,so if Jaspers play like they did Friday nite then I'm backing the wrong team...

Vir -7 over VT **
UVA defense is unreal....they shut down VT out their 1st game....if your a good defensive team you can on offense have off nites..but 9 out of 10 times your defense is still there...will take the Cavs on the road...

Smoo-Cincy...what a game....I have the line at Smoo at Moody -4 to -5...was hoping the line would be Smoo -1 or -1.5...the line is -4.5...damn...only advantage is in my heart and want Mustangs to win and cover...Smoo has been so good to me but " when to jump ship" is important....game should be awesome to watch..so will sit back and relax...and put a crib together...

Yep, I am in and from Iowa ( Des Moines). Didn't get married til I was 44. Spent 25 years chasing women. Spending the next 25 worrying about them.

Daughter (22) graduates from Moo U in May and will be a teacher. Mom is the Superintendent. The little one (16) is a mystery.

I married the lottery. Wife is a saint? and she cash flows. :0074

Life went from good to great. :toast:

BOX......I was gonna mention the boyfriend in the story, but I wasn't sure what the current status was so I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. Glad to hear it. He seemed a like a real stand up guy.:0074
