Went to Marshall-UTSA game yesterday in San Antonio...
UTSA -1 was the line... they played marshall at home a few weeks ago and won by 9.. I talked to a security gd and a cop and they explained why Marshall was playing UTSA again here.. I guess with a week or two left in the Conf USA they reseed the schedule so they can get 2 teams in the NCAA's...never heard of that..
Jivahnn was benched at ODU for attitude and only played 23 minutes..they both said he was a "headcase"..I told him I thought he has been good this season but they both said " you need to see him everynite"..
they told me to watch his pre-game drill... he sat at mid court and shot the ball while sitting down...unreal..how he has the strength to reach the basket...without his legs is unreal.. I'll bet half the NBA players couldn't do that.. the 1st one missed but hit the rim..the second one was a glass swish...the guys told me it usually takes about 4 or 5 trys but he makes one..then he gets up and dribbles to the basket for a dunk...its his game ritual and the crowd goes nuts...I told them I saw him play this year vs tex St and North Tex..they said he only does that at home games...I asked if this is his last game since he will go pro..they both looked at me and said " who told you he is going pro..he has another year here ...maybe he could play in Europe but he is not ready for the NBA... I guess I might be off but I think not only is he NBA material but could be a lottery pick...or close...
recap of game.. Marshall led the entire game.. they have 2 good gds in Taylor and Kinsey..Kinsey is 6'5 and weighs about 180 pounds..he has to have a vertical leap of over 38"...but Marshall played 3 6'9 fds Willims Bryers and another guy that could stick the 3 and dominate inside..
Wallace the other UTSA gd I realized although avg 18 pts a game is a " gunner"..attacks out of control and shoots poor shots.. he was 4-18 but did shoot 4-9 from the 3...ball hog...beats him man off the dribble,beat the next guy and is in traffic when the 6'9 help comes over and takes a wild shot....now if that happens once or twice thats fine..but it happened about 5 or 6 times..
Jivahnn is another story he had 37 pts and was 8-18 from the 3..had 11 rebounds and 3 assists...and shares the ball..so unselfish...but his teammates ignore him and there were many possessions he never touched the ball...he was being hounded on defense big time double teamed but he plays well w/o the ball..every time Jivahnn has the ball something good happens...but you can see the chemistry isn't there.. but then it happened .. Roadrunners down by 10 almost the entire game... Jivahhn hits a 3 and get a steal.. down 74-70 with the ball and under 2 minutes. Roadrunners are back.. then Jivahnn with the ball gets fouled on a reach in ,no call,dribbles to the side and with his off arm shoves the defender in an obvious offensive foul..no need to do that but frustration on no call before...Marshall scores and win by 6 or 7..
So much talent and I think those guys at the game are wrong.. there have to be some NBA scouts looking at him..other teams are doubling him down on defense and yet this kid can dribble,pass and is a dead eye shooter and takes fade awy 3's that are swishes.. Creates his own shot..also has a mid range jumper..back in the day you could call him a sleeper hidden in the small conf...those days are over with social media and you tube...
Doing bad on my picks did win big on Ok St +3 over Texas ..forgot to post it.. Utah St upset San D St...the Merrill kid is 1st team all american ...I really think if Jivann was on one of those teams he would excel and everyone would know his name...so few people here heard of him and you might say " wait a minute" was that the guy Box was always talking about..
Going to pass today.played a small parlay since I'm shooting like Wallace yesterday.. going to see line on Rider to win the MAAC..they are 4th seed..
