sunday:

1 unit....butler moneyline (+132) over michigan
1 unit....depaul (+13) over michigan state

planned on staying away from butler for the first few weeks since they lost both lead guards from last year (miller+archey) and wanted to see how well sheets could take over the spot left vacant by miller. cant pass this one up though. michigan has preseason expectations for the first time in awhile, but i dont think theyre disciplined enough to handle butler's motion. sort of a pseudo-home game here for the bulldogs. very winnable game. anytime you can get a great free-throw shooting and solid 3-pt shooting team as a dog, its worth a look. obviously big 10/ horizon is somewhat of a class mismatch. wolverines very athletic, but i think butlers the right side here. one thing i will be keeping an eye on, though, it butlers rebounding. thats the only place theyre a little weak.

not a ton of reasoning behind depaul. just think this chalk is a little high for michigan state to be laying in this holiday mini-tourney. worth noting that this 2-day tourney is an early sandwich spot for the spartans. izzo's boys coming off kansas a few nights ago and then theyve got a big home game vs duke in the big 10/acc challenge on wednesday. msu very well coached, but not sure if theyll be laying it on depaul in this spot. demons inexplicably struggled vs isu, but still the demons are a decent team capable of hanging.

sick:

thanks man. depaul was down by 3 with 9:00 to go. next time i looked, they were down by 15. i was just shaking my head. then they got back inside the number. that was really the only sustained msu spurt of the game. spartans kept their distance but never really seemed interested in blowing depaul out

that butler game hurt. coulda been a solid hoops weekend. one thing that is of note --however-- is butlers propensity to play extremely close games. theyre one of the few teams who can have a lot of games land on 1,2, or 3 points. hell, theyve already had 2 games this yr go to the final shot. no regrets on a tough ML loss. thems the breaks. coulda grabbed the pts, but philosophy on MLing short dogs has been profitable for me so gotta shake off the occasional tough one. butlers been an absolute cash cow for me the last 2 or 3 yrs though. a lot of people dont realize how solid that program is.

1-1 (+0.0 units) for the day

I had them plus the points and watched the game. They are not the same team. Some very bad decisions and poor discipline - they would have won outright but for repeated fouling in the last minute of regulation and OT - with the lead. Maybe it will get better as the year goes but I would be pretty careful with them. I won and cant complain but I was fortunate too - look at Michigan ft #s

I didnt watch second by second - but I saw the whole 2nd half and i didnt see them do anything particularly well. I think they won the boards but I thought that was more a function of Butler's style and poor shooting than anything. But they didnt quit and they worked hard on D which for them is certainly a positive step.
