3-1 yesterday with the mets rainout, now 29-23 overall. todays plays:
az/mets under 8: same reasons as yesterday; heads up on the early start.
sd/cin over 9: seems reasonable to continue with the reds over in their new park, now 10-4 over on the year. teams over 9 of last 11 in cincy. wilson 8.17 career era vs pads, 5.71 era during the day. both pens pretty well shot right now, ie pegged it with his note about the sd pen, they certainly imploded yesterday.
sf/phi over 9: obviously not a good spot for young foppert, who is struggling in role as starter, and giant bp got hosed yesterday. millwood looking very average this year and has a 5.79 era during day games in his career, and a 6.39 era in the vet. hp ump everitt won't be much help for either pitcher with his small strike zone. teams over 4 of last 5 in philly; wind out to r/c @ 10 mph.
la pit over 7-: this play bucks the recent trends of both these teams, but c'mon, neither of these starters deserve a number this small. ishii 9.00 era vs pirates and suppan 13.50 era vs dodgers, though neither with many innings. suppan has been lights out thus far this year, but has been pitching over his head; he's certainly due to come back to earth. suppan has a 5.11 career era during the day, and a 5.73 career era @ three rivers. ishii career 5.06 era in day games and 4.78 era on the road. timmons behind the plate a hitter's ump.
det/sea over 7-: another game where i just can't see the low number. bernero is a young guy with a lot of talent, but to see a 7- hung on a road game he's pitching has me cocking my head like a dog hearing a strange sound. bernero's day era 5.29. garcia is fairly steady but should give up a couple today. mariners embarrassed @ home yesterday and left a ton of baserunners. look for them to redeem themselves a bit today.
