Montreal (Vazquez) @ St. Louis (Morris)

Well get out the brooms as I see the Cards sweeping the Expos right out of St. Louis today and I will give you a few good resons why I think that way!

Montreal gives the start to Vazquez today who has been nothing short of amazing so far this year with the Expos going 5-1 when he gets the start. He has an ERA of 2.50 and a very nice WHIP of 0.91. But today he is in for a rude awakening as he has been allot less impressive when he faces the Red Birds with a record of 1-4 an ERA of 4.10 and a WHIP of 1.366, in his last start in St. Louis he lasted just 4 innings giving up 4 earned runs throwing 95 pitches. Throw in that he has thrown 120 and 121 pitches in his last two starts and I think he may be a little vulberable today.

The Cards will counter with Matt Morris who has been solid this year with a 2.53 ERA and a solid WHIP of 1.03, his last three starts have seen those numbers come down significantly with an ERA of 1.89 and a WHIP of 1.16. St. Louis is also 4-1 in Morris's last 5 starts against the Expos with a 3-0 record when he takes the hill at home.

The Expos offense has been unimpressive against right handed starters averaging just 4.3 runs a game with a team batting average of just .245, while defensively they have been solid allowing the opposition to score just 3.5 runs a game. The bullpen has been solid with a 3.18 ERA but they have given up 16 homers and that could hurt them against the hard hitting Cards.

The Cardinal ofense has been solid averaging 5.7 runs a game with a team batting average of .290 when they face righties. On defense they have been solid also allowing just 3.5 runs a game and holding their opponents to just a .318 on base percentage. When they are in the friendly confines of Busch Stadium they have commited just 6 errors in 12 games. The bullpen has been their Achilles heal but Morris has gone late into games averaging 7 innings per start.

Home Plate umpire Dana Demuth seems to favor the home team with them going 5-1 when he makes the calls and home favorites of 125-160 are a perfect 3-0 so far this year. He has a strike out percentage of 63.22% with the over going 3-4.

Bottom line is we get one of the best home pitchers in baseball at a great price in my opinion because of Vazquez's impressive numbers who has had trouble with the Cards and I see that continuing today!

Robert,

Was wondering your opinion on the over of 7 1/2, if they do get this game in, it could be long, with several rain delays, that being said the two starters may not go long and the cardinal bullpen seems to give up alot of runs. looking real strong at the over and hope things work out the way I think. I live about 2 hours south of st. louis no rain yet.

Good luck with your play.

Well for me the umpire has more influence on a total than naything else and Demuth tends to call allot of strikes so it was a pass for me. I was looking at the sattelite adn it looks like it may move through by gametime (at least I hope so LOL)

passed on the cards total after serious reflection on the under. probably would have played @ 8 but the cardinal bats right now are enough to back me out @ 7-. demuth does call a lot of strikes and, with this being get away day (for both teams), with the storms blowing through, there'll be a lot of subtle pressures to move this one along. both of these starters can be dangerous when they're getting the corners. thundersorms shouldn't be enough to seriously delay the games, and they are bringing 20 mph winds, with higher gusts, straight in out of center field.
