Holding
Holding
I coach O Line in high school and you have to teach holding. It is legal to hold a d lineman by his jersey and his breastplate of his shoulder pads as long as you stay face to face to face with him. Once he either moves to the side of you or starts to get by you, you have to release him. I admit that many players get their hands outside of the arms on the shoulders and this is holding that often is not called. I have a backup tackle who refuses to keep his hands inside and that is why he is a backup. We also work on hand strength to help my kids grab breastplates. We do towel hangs from the goal posts and puchups on fingers. Once we get ahold of a d lineman we cannot turn him loose. Just two cents worth, and you are right, there is holding every play, legal and illegal. Good job today.
