Tremendous trade for the Knicks. Are now an immediate contender in the Eastern Conference.

If the Knicks are intersted in just making the playoffs then this is a great trade for them. But shouldn't their goal be to contend for a championship? This is just another ploy by Jim Dolan and co. to sell tickets and have the knicks make the playoffs and possibly win a series or two. Everyone knows this team has no chance against any western conference powerhouse or even the top teams in the East for that matter. The Suns got the better end of this deal if you ask me...not only did they load up on draft picks and young players they dumped a big chunk of salary which should put them in position to make a run at Kobe at the end of the season. BTW penny hardaway is horrible
just my opinion

I agree w/hoops as well but that means nothing to Knick fans...who cares if you can win in the East when you know that you have no chance to win the finals

I really don't understand that reasoning. So don't try and improve your team unless you can guarantee a championship? If you can't get Tim Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, and McGrady, don't bother making any moves? Teams can be successful without winning titles. Making the playoffs and possibly making a run at the Eastern Conference title would mean plenty to Knicks fans and their franchise. MSG will be electric with the addition of Marbury. It's a huge boost for the organization and their fans.

Hoops,
Obviously you're not very familiar with the true knick fan...maybe the average knick fan would be content with contending in the East but we want to win a championship...it is obvious that we are stuck in salary cap hell and by adding penny and marbury we have compounded that problem..our chances of winning a championship in the furture have been compromised for winning in the east now..instead of unloading salaries and building up draft picks and young players the knicks have done what theyve been doing for years now which is trying to sell tickets and being a good team with no shot at winning it all...who cares about making the finals whenyou have no shot at winning it...I would trade the knicks for roster for any other team that has young players and potentiol to build into a powerhouse such as the denver nuggets, grizzlies, cavs, etc...I hope you understand where I'm coming from

The Knicks have needed a point guard for years. Now they have one. The problem with Marbury is he wants to be AI instead of JK. NY needs a JK or Bobby Jackson or Jason Williams. They can score but aren't afraid of assists. Still a good move for NY.

Actually, I lived the first 28 years of my life about 45 miles from NYC, so I think I know Knicks basketball and their fans pretty well. Only ONE team can win a championship each year. Doesnt mean it's a bad year for every other team in the league that doesn't. How was McDyess' contract looking on the books? You think his contract was worth keeping around while you wait for him to get injured again? You think the Nuggets are going to win a title? The Grizzlies? If I ever had it, I would wager mucho bucks those two teams don't win a title in the next five years. The NBA is about winning now. If you can get a player like LeBron James, who is a once in 10 year player, that's great. Cavs have been horrible for years now and they still have a long way to go. So you want to the Knicks to tank each season and hope the lottery balls go there way and then hope there is a player who can turn the franchise around? Not going to happen. Marbury is one of the top 3 point guards in the league. Their aren't many players who are of his caliber playing right now or who will be entering the league in the next 5 years. The Knicks gave ZILCH to get him. Great trade for them. I have blasted Isiah Thomas in the past for his performance as a coach, but this is a super move by him and Knicks fans should be very happy.

i agree with hoops. i have been a knick fan since the frazier, reed days & think this is a very good trade considering the salary cap problems that they have. for the first time in a few years it gives the fans some hope.

Die hard Knicks fan here, but have to agree with Red. McDyess' contract comes off the books at the end of this year. Charlie Ward has a buyout in later January of this year.

You wait for Vujanic to come to NY. He is the best PG in Europe. Let 18 year old Marcel Lampe develop. He was touted as a potential lottery pick and played great in the rookie summer camps.

You play Dice and see how healthy he is and maybe you decide to sign him or not. Trade the other players when playoff teams are looking for a potential edge. You have to rebuild, but unfortunately in NY they don't let teams rebuild. :(

that's my point exactly....the Knicks should have let Mcdysse walk after this season and Ward's contract was done after this season as well...I never said that it's a bad season if you don't win a championship but every team should aim toward winning the finals and I don't think that this trade gives the KNicks the opportunity to do so...as for you comments on the Nuggets, they have 20 million in cap room next season meaniing they can sign anyone they want and with solid nucleus of young talent they are developing there, I wouldn't be shocked to see them make the finals in about 3-4 years- Melo, Miller, Nene and a bunch of solid role players like Anderson,Lenard, Barry plus another impact player who they can sign this summer and it's totally not out of the question

The knicks gave two first round picks, two young players who could turn out to be solid if given the oppoortunity to play...in addition they take on Penny's maximum salary contract and he's no better than a 6th man on this team...and my last point is that Frank Williams was starting to show that he could be a good NBA point guard but with Marybury in town he's not going to play more than 10-15 minutes a game giving him no chance to develop....horrible trade in my opinion

redking quote:"You have to rebuild, but unfortunately in NY they don't let teams rebuild."

your 100% correct. for some reason ny teams never build towards the future. everything is geared for now. the executives that run the ny area teams state that the ny fans don't have the patience to wait.

I think it was a good trade for New York as they get one of the top 3 point guards in the league. The PG position is a key position that the Knicks have been lagging behind in for awhile & this move changes all of that. The only thing I wonder is if there will be enough shots for Houston & Marbury. I see alot of critics are wondering how he will hold up being back in the metro area but he has matured alot since then in my opinion & will handle this well.

The Knicks need to pick up a bigman that will be their future & they are set to make some nice runs. This move will also help bring the fans in as it shows they are trying to win & win now. I credit the Knicks for bringing in Isiah as I guarantee this move would not have been done if Layden was still around.
