I can't believe all the hoopla on this ad--and believe they pulled it from future runnings--unbelievable!
The PC police said it was homophobic:mj07:

The candy company probably pulled it.

Doesn't make me want to buy one:nono:

I've heard that reaction from more than one person. It was flat-out a bad commercial. Not sure how that one got green-lighted. Anyone should've known it would bother BOTH sides... the far left was going to find it homophobic, and the right was going to feel uncomfortable seeing it b/c it was two dudes kissing. Just a bad ad all around.

I don't care what the left or right say, the ad was okay. The problem was that it just wasn't funny. It tried to do a turn on that old movie scene from "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" where Steve Martin is sleeping in the motel bed with John Candy. Steve wakes up to find John's hand in his hand, and says, "where is your other hand?"

"Between two pillows," says John.
"Those aren't PILLOWS!"

Now that was funny. But tearing out your own chest hair? That's not...you know...funny. Not even remotely humorous.

Only reaction was I thought it funny--not much else till the PC police come in.

I find it amusing how liberals try and tag someone homophobic if they they find certain acts disgusting.

Probably the most interesting tangent on this liberal logic--is all through history- life threating contagious diseases have been contained by--identiflying carriers--isolating them--and treatment.
--but since aids is transmitted basically by a demographically few the PC police want to make the norm of eradication a profiling stigma.

So rather than identify-isolate and treat

We have -protect indentity--and give carte blanc travel pass ---and then whine about how it spreads:shrug:

the fact of the matter is aids is an easily preventable life style disease--if you keep needles out of your arms and ----out of your----
your chances of catching it are nill--

Im not sure what is more disturbing, your obsession with Bill Clintons rod or using the word Liberal for everything and everyone (which is about 99 percent) that doesn't agree with you.

Dogs - how did a dumb commercial turn into your typical babbling on AIDS? I'm quite sure it wasn't this mythical PC police who pulled the commercial - but rather it was good ol' fashioned capitalism at work. You, of all people, should appreciate that. Bad product = doesn't sell. Believe it or not, it was probably that simple.

I think you've outdone yourself on this one, Wayne. Although I respect you highly, your ongoing mantra against anything left of center is bordering on Manson-like rantation.

Starting to set things up just to elicit any kind of response to get to another rant of some sort.

Seriously, not that my opinion really matters about anything, it tends to undermine your viewpoints. I know my Bush negativity taints my objectivity, too, so I guess it's all good in the political forum.

I have to say that this group of Super Bowl ads were BY FAR the worst I've ever seen. I do not remember actually laughing at any of them to any degree.

Not memorable, interesting, funny, or thought provoking. None of them.

Peace.

My initial reaction to the Snickers fiasco was... "so what?"... I don't see how it could be considered offensive. I was around more than a dozen gay people during the airing of that commercial (during the first quarter I think?) and people were laughing.

Sometimes I think people complain and protest for sport. Just because they can?

But I did read an article that indicated a large part of the problem was with the Snickers website that showed alternate versions of the commercials that were more offensive.

It was something along the lines of current NFL players show on video watching the commercial and saying how disgusting it was. I'm not sure, but I bet Snickers has pulled those videos from their website.

I still don't get the big deal... BUT the stuff on the website might have been a lot more insulting than the one shown during the Super Bowl.

I think this country needs to realize that protest groups/advocacy organizations etc., don't always even accurately represent the section of society they are "protecting"
