Hope we are all still in the mix - I dodged a bullet with the Steelers, wasn't sweating that one at all:scared

Panthers are the biggest line ats at -9.5, with the Giants second at -7.

Might be time for some to have to get creative, based on who they have used thus far.

Post your thoughts.

Dallas should be a popular pick coming off the loss and now facing the Bengals in Dallas. Green Bay would be a solid pick, but with Rodgers injury, it makes it a little dicey. Carolina? This team always scares me, just like the Jags they always seem to be in close games no matter the opponent. I had to sweat out the Jags last week.

I like Carolina, Denver in a bounce back and New Orleans.

Dallas will be the obvious pick but I'd like to hold on to them.

I've made it through the last 2 weeks in OT - NYG and JAX. Sure hoping there will be less sweating this weekend.

Outside of the popular candidates in Carolina and Dallas, I do like Denver against the Bucs.

You have all seen what Brian Griese is capable of and it aint pretty. The Broncos can score, that we all know, whether the Bucs can score enough to keep up with Denver is another matter entirely and I dont think they can.

Above the Clouds....
Squeaked by with Jax this week also. Seems like I can never get a blow out game?
Already used Carolina so I'm looking at a few right now.
Would like to find a mid fav right now and let everyone else use up the big boys.

Survive and advance my friend, don't get cute. Oh that's right, you are in my pool. Take Cincinnati.

Gonna keep a close eye on the status of Rodgers, but that might be one of my plays. I have two entries going, and will use Carolina for one and hoping to use Green Bay for the other. Still have Dallas to use in both, but hoping to save them for later.

Sexlexia...
Like Carolina and Dallas like a lot of ther people...

[Dallas killed a LOT of people in mine last week :00hour ]

...Only 2 other weeks I can see where I'd really want to play either again...
...Carolina v. Detroit in week 11...
...Dallas v. SF in week 12...although we have Pits v. Cinci that week aswell.

Can't really see another good spot for Denver...unless home v. Miami in week 9. (Chic v. Det aswell)

Bah...Might just be easier to take each week as it comes! kurby :142smilie

btw, fwiw, I've got NE and SD in very strong trend/situations this week...likely to have $ on both...
...but already used NE, and obviously there are far better spots to be using the Bolts.

I completely overlooked Dallas at first because the line was not up, but that is the obvious heavy chalk play here.

69 of the original 352 remain in my pool, and about 30 of them have used the Cowboys already. I'm starting to think my best bet is to take the Cowboys now and hope some of the others get tripped up in tighter games. I like the Panthers as well, will be one or the other.

MrChristo -- I am thinking the same with the Panthers hosting the Lions, but week 11 is far away.

This is my first time doing a survivor pool with so many people, should I expect it to go the full season? The rules state that the pool goes into the playoffs if need be, so what is the likelyhood that some people will get past week 17? I should be so lucky to have to worry about playoff picks at the rate I'm squeeking by each week.

New Orleans
Wk 1 Phil
Wk 2 Tampa
Wk 3 San Diego ( almost went with Denver)
Wk 4 New Orleans
Wk 5 Carolina (Also considered Dallas heavily)

I like that KC is hitting the road off of a huge home win. I don't like that Carolina is in between division games!

We're down to 29 out of 115 here. You never know, but I would expect it to end by week 10. I have never won a survivor pool, but I have gone a long way twice in the past 3 seasons. Saving bullets for later has not worked out for me in the past. Of course, like a bonehead, I'm gonna go with Carolina this week and save Dallas. GL:weed:

This is my second year of running it with many MJer's in it, and we are down to 49/174. We could go back and forth on this, but I have been in these numerous times and my own style is to SURVIVE and not to get cute, you know well if I save Dallas for week 11....worry about next week next week. I have got drilled by screwing around, but some like to plot things out, I don't anymore.

I meant to join your pool again this season, but evacuated for Hurricane Gustav without my checkbook. You do a great job with it, and I look forward to joining again next year :toast:

Only 19 of 117 left in my pool!

Week 1 - New England
Week 2 - Arizona
Week 3 - NYG
Week 4 - JAX

Going with Carolina this week

Cie: Gonna be in New Orleans this weekend with my wife to see my Vikings play the Saints. Staying at the Hilton Riverside, will, of course, gamble at Harrah's eat some great New Orleans food. Never been there, any suggestions?:toast:

I'll be a the game as well. I suggest Mother's for lunch. Have a Ferdie, or a roast beef po-boy with debris. Ridiculously good. I would eat there every day if I lived downtown. If its hot, then head to Hansen's Sno blizz for a satsuma snowball. I drive 20 miles out my way for one of those every couple of weeks.

For dinner, the choices near you are nearly endless......

August is a couple of blocks away from you hotel, and Bayona on Dqauphine St in the quarter came to mind immediately. Antoine's and Galatoire's have the full slate of new orleans classics. Irene's is a local italian favorite in the french quarter. A buddy of mine owns Patois uptown, which I highly recommend, but its not in your area.

Let me know what type of food that you like, and I will recommend some spots you may enjoy.

I hope you enjoy the trip, until the game kicks off, that is:142smilie

Thanks for the tips Cie: Had a big recommendation from a buddy to try the Commander's Palace. Already had Mother's on the list. Wanna try and expereince the local cuisine and scene as much as possible. My flight is in 8 hours. Psyched!

Commander's is a New Orleans classic and the former stomping grounds of local culinary titans like Emeril and Paul Prudhomme. The Creole cuisine, including the turtle soup, is world famous. It is uptown, but not more than a short cab ride from the Hilton.

You may want to try some char-broiled oysters with a couple of beers at the restaurant in the Hilton called Drago's. I do not recommend anything else from Drago's, as there are far better places to eat in the area. Make sure that oysters are good first, because Hurricanes Gustav an Ike busted up the beds pretty badly.

The late Dick Schapp's 2nd favorite restaurant in the USA is Brightsen's, which is in the riverbend area. Another favorite of mine. Also, there is casual dining (try the fried chicken, collard greens, fried green tomatoes, etc.) at Jaquimo's on Oak St next door to the world-famous Maple Leaf music joint. No reservations for groups less than 5, so get there early.

Have fun:toast:
