First play of the year goes at 3pm est...GL everyone. (all plays are 1-unit)

November 10, 2012

Play: Delaware +8

The Blue Hens return 4 regulars this year including Sr. Forward and CAA Player of the Year candidate Jamelle Haggins. Haggins is a beast in the paint as a shot blocker and has a nice mid range jumper that other front court players will have a hard time defending.

Other returning starter are 6-6 Sr. forward Josh Brinkley and Jr. guard Devon Saddler. Brinkley started all 32 games last year and is an excellent rebounder while Saddler is crafty and can drive to the basket(also said to have improved his jumper in the offseason.

As for Lasalle, last years top scorer Pettis is gone although they do return senior guard Galloway who averaged almost 15/game last season. Junior guard Durren is a high tempo scorer although undersized even for a guard. Listed 6 foot, probably closer to 5-10.

I think Delaware's size and leadership will keep this game alot closer than the experts predict.
Historically these two teams play each other tight and I expect that to continue this afternoon.

Second play of the year goes at 2pm est...GL fellas

Play: Ill-Chicago -11

Laying the points in this matchup as I see Riverside way out classed here.

Ill-Chicago returns 65% of its scoring this year (4 seniors) as well as a solid group of young talent. 7'0 Fr. Center Matt Gorski should be a top tiered C in the Horizon League this year. Heavily recruited by Hofstra and UAB as well as ill-chicago, he was tabbed as a 3 star recruit outa HS by ESPN. Great addition to the electric Sr. backcourt in Barnes & Talton. These two guards are the highest scoring returning backcourt in the Horizon League this year.

Looking at UC-Riverside's roster I see absolutely ZERO going for them. Looks like they will be leaning on Fr. forward Josh Fox for scoring this year and return only one senior in 6-1 G Robby Smith. This is a very young team (8 fr) and I definitely foresee some groing pains for them.

UC-Riv was ran outa the gym in their opener by Depaul, losing 91-59. Granted Ill-chic is not Depaul but I see much of the same here. UC Riv shot a rancid 50% from the foul line and were never really in the game in the second half.

Can't back a young west coast team on the road here even tho power rankings indicate this line is a tad inflated. I'll lay the 11 with confidence here.

2 plays today, same game, spread and $-line....GL fellas

Play: Detroit +4, Detroit +$160:

Detroit travels to Queens in a non-conference match-up against Steve Lavin's young red storm group. Tip goes at 2pm est as part of ESPN's tip-off marathon.

Busy off-season for Lavin as he recovered from prostate surgery all the while picking up the #8 recruiting class in the nation.

Detroit enters todays game 1-0 on the seaason (N.Mich) and return 8 players (3 starters) from last years Horizon League Championship team. Jr. Ray McCallum is back for the Titans(15.4ppg) and is slated as the pre-season Horizon Player of the Year for the 2nd staright year.

Red Storm return Big East All-Rookie Team member D'Angelo Harrison along with forwards Sir'Dominic Pointer and Amir Garrett. Of the 2 Seniors on the Johnies only 1 had any real playing time last year. Get this, his name is God'sgift Achiuwa-CAnt make this sh*t up! He made 18 starts and averaged almost 10 ppg.

I see these 2 teams pretty evenly matched here. Detroit won last years contest 69-63 at home and see much the same team here this year. Line opened at Johnies -5 and has crept down a tad to 4, 4.5 most shops. Think Detroit makes a little statement here against one of the weaker Big East teams.

Look for McCallum to keep the Titans in this contest and pull out the W in the end. Good luck.
One unit +4, one unit +$160.

Haters in 3,2,1..........

Frustrating 2nd half in this one as Detroit held an 8 point lead at half and squandered it away late in the game losing by 3.

Getting the +4 early was huge here as the line closed at the Johnies -2.5.

Books get middled on this game.
