Stanford -2 *****
Stanford -3 ***
Like them over the Flyers tonite...both teams weren't expected to be dancing...the Flyers are all about team work,no stars,"Blue collar",etc..they have 9 players that get good minutes..Siebert is leading scorer avgs 12 pts a game...you have to love that..no names just share the ball ,rebound and play D...but think the Cards are a tough team to match up with..they have the best scorer in the game in Randle..and can he score...Powell at 6'10 is a force..drives to the hoop, can shoot...Nastic is 6'10 but 6'7 Huestis is the better rebounder...there front line are all "tall and lean"..Brown can stick the 3...think the Flyers will stay close for awhile but Stanford is to athletic and Randle is explosive.. Flyers haven't seen to many teams with this height and a gd like Randle..
Played it 2 times...got the -2 right at the casino on day one...put a few more boxes on it at -3
Florida -4 over UCLA ***
UCLA is coming to this dance on all cylinders...knocked off Zona,Tulsa and SFA...these guys want to just run "till your daddy takes the T-bird away". Slo Mo Anderson is fun to watch but tougher to guard..at 6'9 and facing the basket at the top of the key..Adams can score big time..what is really good about the Bruins is they take care of the ball..avg just 7 To's..they are excellent in transition and the open court..Gators will have there hands full...but Florida can score and plays better defense..inside they have some big kids and Scottie Ice is a great pt gd that can shoot...Frazier needs to get back on track with his outside shot...Billy D will throw at UCLA,some zone, man, full court,3/4,etc...the key for Florida is to contain Anderson somewhat...think UCLA defense will have trouble stopping Young and co inside..
Zona -7 over San Diego St ****
Think the Cats losing to UCLA was a blessing...wake up call...they are the best defensive team dancing...and ironically going against another great defensive team..Aztecs play pressure defense, don't give you open looks, contest shots,rebound,etc..2nd in the nation in defense.8th in FG%,etc..they hit the bds,etc Thames is a stud at pt gd...but their offense is good but not great...Zona plays just as good defense maybe a slight less but has an offense..they have[almost} 2 of the best tandem gds in the country in McConnell and Johnson..inside their tough and Gordon is amazing and I think the best freshman in the country...he adds so much electricity to this team with his dunks and his amazing weak side blocks out of nowhere..Thames needs more offense around him to keep it with the Cats..
Baylor +3.5 over Wisky ****
I am hooked on the Baylor nation hype...both these teams got to play in there backyards in the first rounds..other then a few teams like Tenn no team has put there act together better then the Bears...Cherry has been outstanding at the gd...tore the B-12 up the last 2-3 weeks.. Heslip can't miss..on fire..Austin has improved his game 180...he was so soft last yr vs Texas I couldn't believe all the hype..but he has gained some weight, learned how to rebound and stopped taking those 3's all day..hard to describe Jefferson... a beast inside, man playing with boys...Gaithers,etc...No 3 in off rebounds...
Wisky..wow...the smartest team in the tourney with the highest basketball IQ...never,ever turns the ball over..two solid gds in Brust andJackson... Deeker and Hayes solid fds and the big Kam at 7'0...they have a front court that can score and baylor hasn't seen to many of those..and a 7'0 that can score from the outside...Iowa St drew Niang outside to stop his shot and BU had big time problems with that.Bo will bring Kam out to draw Austin out...but Baylor will do the same because Austin can shoot too...Bo's teams pick you apart but Baylor should be ready..they won the NIT's last yr and know what pressure is...do not like Drew as a coach and he will get out coached but think the Bears are physical, big, can rebound and shoot...they just can't make turnovers because Wisky doesn't...think Bears can win this...
Best Play Stanford....
