Never seen this many on one card before. . . hopefully the odds work out in our favor this time ;)

All big plays:

Tennessee -1
Oklahoma St -6
Purdue -2
Maryland -2 (Like this one the best)

Looking to hit 3 out of 4 given the fact our last "small", non significant system play fell through the cracks two days ago :tongue

Just make sure to play within your means. Gl

I know that Md blew out UNC last year by close to 40 points in college park, and that this game also fits under your system of playing a home favorite vs. a ranked opponent, however as a stundent of UMD, I know that this terrapin team is not close to where the UNC team is...The heals will be looking for revenge from last year when the likes of blake, nicholas, randle, etc blew them out of the building...feel like maryland is getting respect based on past performances...md will be a very formidable team next year when all these young players have a chance to get some experience under their belt but as of now I would not expect them to be able to win against a superior heels team. Me and buddies were talking about this game before the line came out and we all thought that UNC should be the favorite in this situation because we know that despite the home court advantage, the talent level of our squad will not be able to keep up with guys like felton, mccants, may, williams and company,,,,I respect your handicapping ability but I would not touch the terps in this game because the feeling around college park is that we are not going to win this game and if we do it would be a shock to all

terp:

good post. always nice to see some local knowledge that isnt ridiculously biased one way or the other (seems we get a lot of guys who claim their team is the greatest and --conversely -- theres a lot of guys who just trash their team and say "load up and bet the house against em")

your post was objective and helpful.

personally, im of the belief that, while maryland is down a little bit this year, they still have a dominant home court (which is so important in the acc) and are as well-coached as anyone in the nation. that in itself could translate into a victory. we'll see. gl with your plays

I am from md and have followed the terps pretty close. game wont be a blowout either way this year, but the homecourt should be a huge advanatge with such a small number. i really think md will alternate pressure at times and people like strawberry and gilchrest will cause carolina major problems when carolina has the ball. md has a lot of athletic 6-4 to 6-9 players that will look to up the tempo. on offense, if md gets hot with cainer-medley and gilchrest and mccray this game might get ugly. imho.

Balls Deep
Goterps,

We obviously will differ on our opinion of tonight, but I will objectively argue one of your points. If Gary Williams decides to pressure the ball against us, you guys will get burnt bad. If he watches any tape from GTech, he will see that every time they pressured the ball it resulted in an easy layup for us. And I'm talking about around 8 to 10 times. Raymond Felton is too good of a ball handler and can break down pressure with the dribble. I don't see this game being a blowout either. The way to beat Carolina is to force us to play a half-court offense, against a zone. We simply cannot beat the zone this year. That's how Kentucky beat us. The only way to get out of it is to hit oustide shots, and that is our weakness (with Jawad out Scott is our only outside threat, some from Felton/McCants).

So tell me, how much will Maryland play zone. What type of defense do they typically run most often?

Saint.obviously i have a little homer in me.and .i havent seen carolina enough to know what their weaknesses are. But Md at home especially with the ultra-quick strawberry and gilchrest, likes to play uptempo, get the crowd going and create turnovers. I know Felton is good, but md will brings waves of people at him and i think he could tire. also I havent seen md play much zone. having said that, md does get beat in transition sometimes, but i chalk that up to immaturity and inexperience which defintiely could be a factor tonight. Regardless, i loom forward to an awesome game

Johnny,

I'm still gonna play it but I may not play it as high. . . Vegas released this one as Tenn -3 and now Vandy is the favorite? Scary line move IMO. The two most solid from a system play perspective combined with line moves are Oklahoma State (surprisingly) followed by Maryland in that order. Purdue actually started at a pk but moved almost immediately into a favorite position which is why I still feel its a system play at least for me.

TENNESSEE has won eight of its last 10 at home against arch-rival VANDY and cashed in eight of the last 12 SEC showdowns. The Volunteers are 26-11 ATS against conference competition.

OKLAHOMA ST. has whipped OKLAHOMA in seven of nine SU at Stillwater.

WISCONSIN has lost 28 straight at PURDUE and it failed to get the cheddar in its last four visits. The Badgers have cashed 24 of their last 35 in conference play, however.

MARYLAND has won and cashed five of its last six versus NORTH CAROLINA. The Terrapins have also got the money in 19 of their last 27 as home favorites. Nine of the last 11 series scraps, including the last four, have topped the total.

UNC / Maryland

UNC / Maryland

I agree with what Terp and Saint have said... this Maryland team is definitely down this year, and to be quite honest I think they will struggle to be .500 in the ACC this year. With that said, games like tonight's will determine the success of Maryland's season. Maryland DOES have nice home court edge, but in my opinion this will only help if Maryland can keep the game close (take for example their close OT win against against Wisconsin, the better team lost that night). I actually think there's a good chance UNC runs away with this, in which case the home court won't matter. UNC has the better team and Roy Williams SHOULD have his guys properly motivated. I really think revenge will be a big factor tonight, you don't think UNC wants to crush Maryland after one of their most embarrasing defeats in school history last year? They didn't have Sean May, they DID have Disaster Doherty, and the team chemistry was in shambles. This time, UNC is on a bit of a roll and I think they will keep it going. I have great respect for Gary Williams and Maryland, after all I have personally witnessed 8 of the last Duke/ Maryland battles (including the 10 point comeback at College Park). I just think the difference in talent and experience is too much for Maryland to handle. Write this down, if Maryland wins tonight, UNC will blow out the Terps in Chapel Hill.

gary williams will have his team ready for roys 1st trip as unc coach.talent is certainly w/unc but it might be time for another walk about by mccants.i would watch line move .md will not out run unc.crowd wants it up and down but i see md collapsing on may and making unc beat them from outside.should be 3-5 pt game either way.

Square,

You would think that I would keep good records concerning this system but I don't. Hopefully somebody can find it for us.
