usc's achilles is Cal, just cant cover vs them, give credit to Tedford, just an awesome coach ... that said, USC had every opp to easily cover, albeit Cal Coulda won at end too (i know thats contradictory, bear with me, hehe)... I just think they beat asu by at least 5 (see if carroll is as good as I think as compared to Richt not gettng his team ready for TN) This is last big step for USC winning pac-10, dont see them allowing nonchalant look in Coliseum ... (Bing back?) .. and I know asu had bye etc--I not anti asu but not sure who've theyve beaten, Beavs at home, where Cal slaughtered them in Corvalis when many here said beavs would win SU

I am tying this to huge revenge game for Eagles ... they are a MUCH better team this year than panthers, who only made bronco game close with 102 int back to 1 yl (can i get on right side of one of those puppies this year, i.e. KC) ... droughns for broncs ran wild; panthers are near fork time if they lose this game, and while i respect their LY's team I dont see them staying within eagles -2, not with Gints a whisper away

USC -4.5
EAGLES -2

I have to majorly disagree with you in saying that "USC had every chance to cover." Watching the whole entire game with a vested interest as a Sun-Devil student, I thought Cal was the better of the team. Special teams KILLED them. Look at the stats:

1st downs: Cal-28 SC-12
Rushing yards- Cal-44 for 157. SC-25-41
Passing yards Cal-267 SC-164
Fumbles: Cal 4 lost 3 of them. SC-1 fumble, lost 0.

There you have it. SC didn't have every chance to cover, they had every chance to lose. I give them credit for winning in spite of the yardage battle, but as an ASU fan, I am much more afraid of Cal than SC at this point.

As for ASU...who have they beaten? Northwestern, Iowa and Oregon St. are no cupcakes. They have beaten everyone in front of them...with defense, nonetheless.

I guess

I guess

U will load up on devils then, seeing youre not partisan ;) ...

didnt USC throw an INT when they had sure FG (thanx Linehart, thats was blooper)? maybe I missed that, b/c U conveniently didint include that in your synopsis ... and didnt usc have 1/goal at two when it appeared WR would score TD ... just think usc did have every chance to cover and U dont, thats cool ...

and Shooter was coaching for Hackman, but Jimmy Chitwood brought home the bacon after leaving Eugene, dont brag too hard about that, Dux have been in tank ever since Belotti's wife started cheating on him ... and as for Beavs, I think its stated well enuff: on rd. Cal wins by 42 and Devils win by 14? in tempe ... Beavs are also not a quality team this year--I dont think many will disagree with that; maybe Iowa really is good and I'm missing that

Heres Coach K's big chance, he sure folded LY after a promising 2002; this week he has everything going his way, a bye, USC off biggest rival/challenge in Pac-10--it all pts huge to your boys ...

Just giving ya some grief, dont take it as anything more than fun :)

I agree with Pt1gard. USC "easily" should have covered and CAL "easily" could have won.

2 most important things that changed the game. IN 1h USC was up 10 pts and Cal threw INC PASS on 3rd and goal but the ref called PI on USC LB. I guess the call was legit but it was "not" an obvious PI. So CAL got 1st and goal and scored, otherwise would have kicked a FG. Not gonna complain about that. However.....

In the 2h, USC had 3rd and goal (up by 6pts) and Leinart threw to 6.5 WR Jarret and the CAL DB CLEARLY, i repeat, CLEARLY was on top of Jarrets back and the ball was tipped in the air and was INT. USC should have had 1st and goal on the 2 (just like CAL got) or at the VERY LEAST USC would have got a FG. I have no idea how that was not called a PI. The DB was literally on top of Jarrets back. GOTTA CALL PI's BOTH WAYS especially when both teams had 3rd and goals and the USC play went for an INT.

Those were the 2 most important things in the game, otherwise USC would have won by double digits.

As for the stats, it is BS. People need to understand that USC plays to win, not play for stats. Pete Carrolls GAMEPLAN was to let CAL dink and dunk all game, he gave it up. I do not think CAL passed the ball over 10 yards the WHOLE game. CAL is the best offensive team in the country and yet they only scored 17 pts (woulda been less without LB PI on goaline). PETE CARROLL's DEFENSIVE STRATEGY WORKED and that was DESPITE Rogers playing a PERFECT GAME!!!! That is some serious defensive coaching by Pete Carroll. WHO CARES ABOUT THE STATS. Didn't you watch the game? If Rogers had a good or even great game CAL woulda scored less than 17 pts, but Rogers had a SUPERB game and completed 23 straight passes yet CAL ONLY scored 17 pts. Think about that! One last thing on the defense, GROOTEGOOD (USC's #1 LB was playing hurt) BING (USC #1 Safety was out for game) and WARE (Safety who backs up BING partially fractured his ankle in the 1h and was replaced by true freshman) Just something more to think about. I get big kick when I hear people on radio or newspapers saying CAL outcoached USC or CAL is the better team. Not true at all if you understood the gameplans and how they worked to perfection. USC easily should have won this game by double digits and it never should have came down to that last drive by CAL. How do I know this? I go to the USC MONDAY MORNING QB's and USC USUALLY uses this defensive philosophy. WHY? CUZ IT WORKS! MOST college QB's cannot dink and dunk themselves all the way down the field in college football and not make mistakes. Rogers played SUPERB game and CAL only scored 17pts and CAL is prob. the #1 offensive team in the country. Very experienced team too!

As for USC against ASU. USC is coming into this game HURT! Lotta injuries on the USC team. #1 WR for USC broke his fibula during the CAL game is is out 4-6 weeks. On the flip side, Walter is not a mobile QB and that is BAD news for ASU. I also think ASU has one of the best LB corps in the country, maybe not the best but one of the best! Should be a great game. I think USC starts off slow and burys ASU in the 2h.
