On The Other Side
I'm considering laying two dimes on Atlanta tonight. I have laid two dimes on a baseball game twice in my life, so this would be a game of the year type play for me. Please provide any information that you have which indicates Atlanta is not the play tonight. Here is what I found:

Atlanta is 99-57 the last 3 years coming off a loss.
Atlanta is 11-3 the last 3 years coming off 3 or more consecutive losses.
Atlanta is 91-71 the last 3 years against winning teams.
Atlanta is 107-66 the last 3 years at home.
Atlanta is 97-62 the last 3 years against the NL East.
Atlanta has won 45 of the last 61 meetings with New York in Atlanta.
Atlanta has won 13 of the last 18 meetings overall.

The game is currently a pick. In my opinion, this line is hoping to attract action on the Mets because from a statistical standpoint, Pedro appears to have the advantage over Smoltz. A certain consensus report currently shows nearly 55% on the Mets. Also, New York made a cross-country trip. The Mets will be playing their 8th straight road game. They may be a little weary.

I look forward to hearing your opinions. Thanks in advance!

I tell you what Wise, you lay two dimes and I'll join you. I'm liking this game more and more. I think it sets up nicely for the Braves tonight.

Not a huge deal, but you may want to wait or look into Renteria's status

04/27/06 SS Edgar Renteria Side missed last few games, probable Friday vs NY Mets.

Good luck wise I like atlanta. They gave Pedro all he wanted his first start this year against him and now smoltz is home and should dominate

Yes, I'm willing to put that on the Braves. Pedro is due for loss. Too much traveling for the Mets. I think the Braves will show up tonight and Smoltz is gonna pitch a great game.

Just my thought, pedro has pretty much been unhittable in most of his start, while smoltz has been hit in almost all of his. Other than A Jones, and a not 100% C Jones the braves offense is pretty weak. Delgado, Wright, Nady, and Reyes have been hitting well as of late. This is just my quick thoughts but this is also comming from a mets fan. If I was to bet the game it would be on the mets, no matter what the previous history is. This is not the same Braves team that we have seen in the past.

Good Luck on what you play

There are better games than this to put two dimes on. ie, Houston.
Look at the game by game break down, Pedro is rounding into form and getting stronger.
Smoltz is coming off his lowest pitch count outing. His pitches have been flat and his strikes are getting hit.
The Mets although traveling are coming off a day off, this makes travel a little easier. Plus Mets don't want to lose the first game to the Braves.
Betting either team is a bad bet today.
Good Luck

I'm with ya Wise..... I love Smoltz in games like this...
Stud vs. Stud.....I think he shows up too... I wouldnt
be surprised if he goes the distance....Braves are coming
off a very dissappointing sweep by the Brewers and I can
see them playing with some emotion tonight...Bobby
has them ready!!!!!! I'm not betting 2 dimes like you but
it is the biggest bet for me this year in Baseball...Let's Cash
this Bitch!!!!!

Good luck and kick ass

Wise--I was digging the Braves too, but.....

Pedro is 2-0 on the road this year with an ERA of 1.29 and an opponent's batting average against of only .109. he has allowed only 11 hits and 5 walks in his last 3 outings (over 20.2 innings).

I am not trying to talk you off of the Braves, just the 2 dimes part. Personally I believe the best play tonight is the Rockies (who I see you already like). Good luck whatever you do.

Wise, here some more in favor of ATL... GL I'm gonna tail you on this one.

Atlanta at home against the NY Mets on any surface on any day in any month.
Atlanta was 23-7 in these games last 3 years.

Smolt vs Martinez head to head (2-2) irrelevant?

9/16/2005 Mets 4 Braves 0 L 7 U -120 P Martinez J Smoltz
9/6/2005 Braves 3 Mets 1 W 7 U -120 J Smoltz P Martinez
4/26/2005 Mets 3 Braves 4 W 6.5 O -140 P Martinez J Smoltz
4/10/2005 Braves 1 Mets 6 L 8 U 100 J Smoltz P Martinez

"55% consensus" is a bit of an oxymoron. hopefully this doesnt factor in even the slightest of ways.

all things considered, both teams are dramatically different from past seasons, so im not sure how much stock i could put in any trends. they're pretty pointless. but having said that, i would definitely play atlanta before i would play new york in this game, and i do think the braves will win.

i'm sure you can find a better game to make your biggest mlb wager ever......going on the other side of pedro....a lot to ask.....smoltz could give up 1 or 2 runs and you could be done.

I think player by player the mets have the advantage, they have a more potent offense. as far as pitching I think they have the advantage on the bullpen, and on the starters I think they are even, so tha makes 2-1 advantage mets..

Good luck whatever you choose to play

GL if you do Wise :mj08: Couple of days ago you started a thread on "Is this the year?" citing the Braves ineptitude with the average pitching and poor bullpen  and now you want to put 2 dimes on them?? IMO they've played like chit lately and won't see another penny of mine (especially against Pedro) until they show signs of life :SIB I was tempted to take Smoltz tonight but....

It's basically a coin flip. Atl has been winning, but hardly scoring any runs. Now they face an elite pitcher. First game back off road trip, not a good situation. I don't see any reason to justify the size of your bet, but if I were doing it, I'd probably take the alt runline at +218. I think the better bet is under 7 at even money.
