UNC games YTD: 4-1 +5 units

The Tar Heels travel to Greenville for an intrastate rivalry against the ECU [Butt] Pirates. Both teams enter the game 0-5, so at least 1 team will come out a winner by the end of this "Toilet Bowl." The Tar Heels tend to play better on the road in the last few years, I think they feel less pressure to win and peform better then when at home. For ECU, this is a HUGE game, basically their "Game of the Year". NCSU may feel like the little brother who didn't get enough attention compared to UNC, but ECU feels like the beaten red-headed stepchild of North Carolina.
The line opened at 8.5 which I though was pretty high considering everything, but now has dropped to 7.5. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of money on ECU just because of how bad our defense is.

In my July 31st post, I stated the Tar Heels would not win their 1st game until ECU and things have come along as expected. Basically, both teams have terrible defenses, but at least the Tar Heels have an offense that can produce. Carolina averages 31 ppg on the road and 430 yds of offense vs. ECU's 10ppg and 273 yds of offense. Both defenses combined give up a total of over 900 yds on defense:eek:

In Tuesday's loss to Houston, ECU's qbs were a combined 10-27 with 3 pics. They have committed 5 turnovers in each of these 3 games.

To someone not familiar with UNC, they might feel ECU at home getting 7 points against our defense is too much to turn down. I, on the other hand, feel like we will win this game by at least double digits. I think for our players, this will be the game where they let off a ton of steam and frustration and pile up the points. Granted our defense is bad, but ECU's offense isn't that good. Our offense will light up ECU, I think we will win this game in a blowout.

Played this for only 2 units so far but will likely double up later in the week.

Pick: UNC -7 2 units

I like the over. It opened a bit higher than the 54 it's at now if I remember correctly. I only question how much the ECU offense will generate. They have averaged only 8 ppg this season, although against our defense that number is likely to go up. I was considering playing the total later in the week as long as it does not move up any higher.

Looking forward to the Pucks forum Horns :D

Stevie-

Don't know if I would hit this game too hard. It's a big rivalry on their side so it might be closer than 7. They played us tough at home 2 years ago here in Chapel Hill and we were lucky to come out 4 point winners (as 6 point favorites). I think it's worth a medium sized play but don't know if I would go huge.

I'll talk to you this weekend

ECU runs a 4 WR set for most of their offense. This could be a potential challenge as our corners suck and we are pretty depleted at that position w/ some injuries. The good news is the emergence of some freshman linebackers last week, allowed free safty dexter reid more leeway to actually play safety instead of having to tackle runners getting downfield. Despite the 4 outs, I still hold that ECU's qbs suck and am pretty sure they will turn the ball over a good deal.

A slight word of caution about the total; Bunting in his press conference this week was insistent on us trying to develop a running game this week against ECU. It will most likely fail and we will end up throwing anyways but just thought I would inform.

The weather forecast in Greenville for today is rain. Not sure how much it will change things, I think weather analysis is a bit overrated.

As Cow would say, "Bartender, make mine a double"

i went to the ecu/hou game a week ago tuesday and was stunned at how bad the pirates have become. qb paul troth has regressed terribly and desmond robinson is simply not a div i quarterback. thompson has actually talked this week of playing the jv starter, that's how bad things have gotten. on offense there were a couple of plays where ecu backs ran into each other. special teams were a clusterf*ck. what was really surprising was how bad the defense plays, given thompson's defensive backround. with the exception of one studly 200 lb middle linebacker, the d was unorganized and unmotivated. if bunting can't handle the pirates with ease, he should surely be shown the door.

weatherwise, i am about 40 minutes from the stadium and it is overcast but not raining. it has been raining for the last couple of days but not hard enough to significantly affect playing conditions.

We are not looking good, our offensive coordinator has apparently lost his mind and is running on every single down

Sorry to all that followed me, I know it's not over but it will take a lot of luck to cover today. I hope John Bunting grabbed a newspaper today, he'll be looking in the classifieds once we lose this game.

i'm not willing to write off my tarheel bet yet. but unfortunately, saint, i don't think bunting is going to be the guy that brings back tarheel football.

Unfawking believable, fumbling near the redzone, missing a 35 yd chip shot.

if we lose this game i might miss my 1st home game in 6 years next week. these guys don't deserve fans at their games with the effort they have given:mad:

Man, we still suck but I'm glad we covered :D I think I just lost 3 years of my life watching that one, that was my biggest play in a while. I'm glad we got the win for the guys who tailed.

Usually I have a feeling of what the line will be and some thoughts but home against ASU I'll have to do some thinking on this one.

Will have my usual post up sometime in the week
