UNC Picks YTD: 4-1 +3 units
Sides: 3-0 +3 units
Totals: 1-1 0 units

Tar Heels travel to take on Cleveland State for Jawad Williams' homecoming I will have a write-up to follow, just a bit baffled by the line that came out. It opened at -17, which I considered low. It then dropped to 15:eek: I cannot pass on taking that line now, but am a bit worried as it seems so off to me. Early play, may buy some back but prob not.

Pick: UNC -15 2 units

Only thing that I can figure, and it is definitely significant, is the size advantage inside for Cleveland State...6-10 Walters in the middle, 6-11 senior Papa Badiane at the power forward spot and long 6-7 junior Omari Westley at the small forward position.

Our team has huge issues on the glass, especially defensively. The offensive rebounds we have given up might cost us in a game like this.

perhaps the TarHeels first venture away from the comforts of their Home State.. is making it hard to feel confident with this game with Cleveland State..

When I saw this line I couldn't beleive it as well:eek:

With roy williams in chapel hill this is going to be a top 5 team by the end of the year:D

Cleve st may have a height advantage but UNC is so atheletic and I really can't stress Williams impact. One of the best in college hoops....................period:eek: And as long as may stays healthy:eek: watch out

very big game for mike garland and his program. he gets a shot to save the cleveland state program just 2 games into his coaching career at csu. obviously some hyperbole there, but some of its true. vikings basketball had so much promise but the last few years, csu has struggled (which led to dismissal of rollie).vikings have normally played very well when they bring the big boys to town. to his credit, massimino did a good job of scheduling these kinds of exposure games for his program. now garland gets an opportunity. given his michigan state ties, im expecting a controlled defensive effort here. saint- you know i think highly of unc this year but i think csu plays well in this role. we'll see. definitely nice to see jawad get a shot at home though.

First instinct was Clev St. Tought place to play in and NC's first game on the road will be a little tough. But with a line jump from 17 to 15, makes me worry a bit. Might have to lean towards NC now. Good luck

Gman, as always I appreciate your feedback. But Cleveland State is 1-21 if I remember correctly against top 25 teams. Hardly what I would call playing well against the big boys:nono:

I think the size inside will be be a challenge and I am eager to see how we deal with it. I think Roy will have his boys ready for this road tilt, we are eager to show this good play has not been a fluke. The one sure way to kill size = speed. And that is exactly what we will win with. I don't care if they have guys who are 8 ft tall, if you run the ball down the court with guys like Ray Felton those big men will be dragging their arms like Patrick Ewing used to. We won't wan't to set up a half-court offense, so the running will be the difference.

Adding: UNC 1st half -8 1 unit

Good luck guys:D

Just got in from dinner, I'm in NJ visiting my family for the holidays so I missed this one thankfully because it was not televised up here.. Anyone want to give me a short recap? From what a friend told me, we were lucky to even get the win, CSU played well and exposed our weaknesses. Anyone with a short recap I would appreciate who watched it.

Tonight: 0-2 -3 units

carolina got out to an early lead (9-2 with 18:00 left) which i was worried about (csu couldnt afford to let carolina jump on em early)

9-2 carolina with 18:00 left
10 point lead through most of the half
29-18 midway through
csu makes a big run. ties it at 35-35
csu quick spurt again before the half.
csu 41-37 at half.
basically tied throughout the entire 2h.
csu gets a couple percell coles 3-balls.
csu led 76-72 with about 3:00
carolina closes the game on a 10-0 run
82-76 final

Nice recap, what about the performance part of it. Seems like that guy coles was on fire. Did Carolina play down to CS, or did they step up to us? Did the big men inside give us some trouble? I'm trying to gauge this team for the Illinois game coming up. Last year things were fine and dandy until Illinois ripped us a new one and the wheels fell off!

honestly, the first 5:00 of the game really scared me. sometimes, thats when games are won and lost. you can take the will to win away from an underdog before the first media timeout sometimes. carolina got out and ran early.

csu simply settled in and ran good stuff. 1st half wasnt sloppy. both teams took care of the ball well. csu just stepped up with like a 16-4 run or something to take the lead.

csu also scored the first few points of the 2h, which allowed them to maintain momentum.

coles played really well. ive always liked him. hes capable of catching fire from outside.

seriously though - carolina is gonna be more than fine. this was just a dangerous game for them and csu rode an emotional buzz the entire game. anytime you let a dog hang around, they play with more confidence.

the main guys that hurt carolina werent any of csu's big guys.

it was actually a crisply played game on both ends.
both teams very well coached, and that was apparent for most of the game

Definately seemed like a good game. Looks like McCants and Williams were just to strong for Cleveland to defend.....
