work for small company, and they had an error on the sales staff w2's State and federal dont match.

Well now I'm told we have to wait till March 31st to get the corrected w2..

I say F-that!!! I usually get a nice return and dont need the government to hold my money any longer.

You employer or their CPA/Payroll Company is who fills out the W-2's, they need to correct it, and it shouldn't take them to march 31st to do it.

But if u have filed w/the irs with the mistake you are at the mercy of the irs, usually takes 3 months to get it corrected, had it happen to me 3 yrs ago.

Cant you just file using the correct amount? If e-filing you dont send in the W2s. If you get questioned on it later you should have the correct W2s by then to show you used the correct amount.

IRS says following:

When to file. File Forms W-2c and W-3c as soon as
Revised title for box c. Box c on Form W-2c is now possible after you discover an error. Also provide Form W-2C to employees as soon as possible.

I would expect this to be handled within a week. Did they say why 3/31?
