Thursday BEST BET Record: 1-0

TCU -3 (+100) 1st Half
$400 to win $400

Tulane has no D/O line, the only thing that scares me is their Qb and WR (Moore) combo. I was leaning towards the Under as well, and TCU to cover, but I think that they will come out of the gate strong and make an early statement.

best of luck to all

DR. I saw that line drop..I have 2 books I use...One has it at 7 and the other has it at 5.5 Could be a middle possibility.

here is more info I found...

Tulane

QB/RB

Losman is solid no doubt and many are riding this pick because of the hype surrounding him. Additionally Melwede Moore is a great back.

OL

But both are only effective if the OL is solid and Tulane's line is anything but. While three starters return to the line, that line protect Losman last year and gave up 42 sacks. Additionally they had a very hard time run blocking, the net cause of a running game that averaged just 3.0 yards per carry. This alone is reason enough to take TCU but wait, theres more!

WR

Receivers are solid with Roydell Williams returning but with a below average OL and a monster TCU pass rush expect to see Losman on his back all night.

DL

As bad as the OL is the DL wont fair much better, lots of redshirt undersized freshman and really no speed or push. Think of a Cincinatti sized DL with 1/3 the speed and you get an idea for the Tulane DL. They wont put alot of pressure on Gunn (or Hassel) and wont be able to stop Hobbs or Madison

LB

Probably the strength of the defense but not strong by even Conference standards. Led by Wesley Heath with good speed and agility but a bit undersized.

DB

This is weakest part of the entire team, Youmans is a speedstar and track member but he is raw and doesnt have a good ball skills. The best DB is probably Sean Lucas and he too was a reserve last year.

Conclusion

The Horned frogs are better in EVERY area with the exception of QB and maybe WR. But with the decisive advantage the defensive front seven will have against a below average Tulane OL and the strong running game of TCU against a terrible Tulane front seven gives TCU a clear mismatch in this game.

TCU is clearly the strongest team in the conference and whether you believe it or not they believe they have the talent to wreck the BCS party.

The Frogs are solid in all areas and this matchup should be a MIS-matchup. The running game will go wild on the Wave and dont be surprised if the Frogs also air it out a bit against a weak secondary. Couple this with a solid TCU front seven and an athletic secondary and this game should be a double digit win and never in doubt.

No such thing as a lock, but the line is a clear advantage to TCU minus the number.

like your pick and logic....

just a trend to give you a heads up...road fave in this series is 1-5 ats...

but in TCU you have a team that is stout against the run and can run the ball on offense....and if memory serves...didnt tulane have an exceptional ampount of turn overs go in its favor last year...

i just checked they led the nation in turn over differential..THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN TWO YEARS IN A ROW...

good luck

dr. strangelove,
nice write up!
one thing that struck me was "TCU is clearly the strongest team in the conference and whether you believe it or not they believe they have the talent to wreck the BCS party".
i totally agree that if they win tonite vs. tulane, they could go 12-0 for the season. but they won't crash any BCS party!
conference usa is not part of bcs consideration. i hope they do go undefeated to see if we get some reform on this current format. good luck tonite!

...well, as you probably already know, we're on opposite sides of this one, but here is a prop bet that I thought was very interesting....

NCAA Half/Quarters Football Mon 9/1
1st Quarter Spread Money Line Total Points
203 TCU -0.5 +102 -156 OVER 10.5 -108
204 Tul +0.5 -118 +139 UNDER 10.5 -108

...for the 1st quarter, unless you think that it will be tied, here's a small scalping opportunity. Take TCU -0.5 (+102) and Tul ML (+139). Just a thought. ;)

...hope that you had a profitable 1st weekend of college foots. I went 3-2 with Tulane pending.... Knoxville was rockin' this weekend, but the heat was almost unbearbale. You wouldn't believe how many "overweight" folks had to leave the stands....

...i would wish you luck tonight, but since I'm on the other side, I'll just give ya one of these.... :thefinger

...talk to you soon, my northern friend. :D

I was wondering if you drank silly and slept overnight in the stadium as I haven't seen you around. Or maybe the lady pulled you by the ears? LOL

...no pictures, but the cheerleaders looked great. ;)

...as for the game tonight, I certainly hope that we can both come out winners. I'll save the :thefinger for the books. LOL

I love how the TCU front seven matches up with the lackluster Tulane O line.

Taking TCU (-5) 2 units.

DR. where did you get the info Tulane's starting QB is doubtfull?
If he is not going to play would this not have a very big impact on the winner. I am on tulane but if starting QB not playing I will buy it back. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF HE IS STARTING?

...really weird. I had Tulane and I get to the 1 yard line and go for it on 4th down and get stuffed.

...glad I didn't try that scalp, although it should have been $$. ;)

...final score - Tul 34 TCu 33. LOL

...good luck tonight, my friend. :D

p.s. TCU was up 23 17 at the half. :D
