If some of the quotes I am reading in today's paper are accurate he may hav reffed his last tourney game. As an example, apparently when Mouton asked him why he had been called for his 4th foul Valentine responded "Shut the ***** up, you aren't in the NBA and I doubt you ever will be."

Of course Freeze I am doubting Klotz could have even drawn iron from the charity stripe last night. The Horns' message boards today are brutal on him.

he has always been a jerk--indiana fans still believe that he was responsible for us not being the national champs in 1992--we were totally screwed by him in the semi-finals against duke

back out the 12 free throws in the last minute and i think it was 23 fouls on tx and 20 on xavier with 1 minute to go.xavier shot 23 and 29 foul shots in first two games.nonetheless tx should have gotten 3 foul shots on that hack on the arm.

According to Bobby Knight, Ted Valentine is the biggest travesty he has ever seen in his 32 years of coaching. Folks in Indiana hate his ass. He should definitely get penalized for what he said to Mouton though.

officials in any sport who do this type of thing should be released of their duty---it didnt lose the game by any means and i had xavier and xavier and over rather large so im glad i cashed but ive played sports and i know refs who like the controversy they make a call then instead of sticking by it and walking away they wait and see if they can get in a discussion---valentine is wrong again cause mouton will be in the nba and probably the only longhorn from this year to make it there for a while---fact is texas does less with more in every sport and arent focused enuff to win it all that might go back to the coach

Some of you are really fuhking clueless. Barnes has put Texas in the Sweet 16 for 3 seasons now with far less talent than some of the other top programs out there. We went further than Kentucky, Stanford, Gonzaga, and Mississippi State but their coaches are somehow void of criticism. I bet had Texas went to the Championship and lost, you bozos would still be here to heckle him.

Texas does less with more in EVERY sport? Are you free basing? Name a better sports program in the nation. I think 43 National Championships says we're pretty good.

wolfpacker, I love reading your comments about our suck ass coach and then hearing how Wolf Pack fans want him as their next coach. Looks like your support is on the low end of the totem pole.

felonious:

a lot of people just make a blanket statement about texas sports because of their football program.

i dont think the basketball program has underachieved by any stretch.

but football on the other hand- thats absolutely a case where they do the least with the most talent in the country and its not even close.

youre right though, texas sports as a university is hardly anything to be ashamed of.

but football is the main moneymaker and theyre the biggest underachievers in the country

F.Monk,I said this a few weeks ago.I'll paste it

Barnes is considerd not a great bench coach.Decent, avg but not great. He is in the middle of the pack with game adjustments.

Now as a person and coach he sucks. He is a backstabber and liar.Hated among most coaches in the MAAC,Big east,A-10 and ACC.
Everyone knows the story. He was at George Mason back in the late 80's
Gordan Cheisa the Manhattan coach was now at Prov.Gordie is one of the best teachers in the game. a personnel good friend of mine so this hurt even more.
Prov had a star whose name escapes me now.The kid went to my HS.Gordie benched his ass a few games for attitude, not passing the ball, late to practices, etc.
The jerk threatened to transfer unless Prov fired Gordan.Prov talked to Barnes on the side.Barnes ended up calling this kid before he took the job and agreed with the kid.Talked bad about Gordan. Now I know this 1st hand and so do about 50-60 D-1 coaches.
Prov fires Gordie and Barnes gets the job.Of course the kid stays. But Barnes continues to bad mouth Gordan.Every BE coach hated his ass during his whole stay at Prov.
When he went to the ACC and Clemson it continued.I believe he and Dean almost had a fist fight at NC.
I know a lot more stories about Barnes.I think he is a pretty good coach. Can recruit thats for sure.As a person he is an ass..h
Gordans brother- in- law taught at my HS.Gordie spoke at many clinics and was our guest speaker at awards banquets many times.
But things happan for the best.Gordie has been an asst with Utah long before Stockdon and Malone arrived.Making big bucks in the NBA for yrs.
And Barnes couldn't buy a basket today. I wonder if Chiesa in Utah was watching. If he was I'm sure he had a smile on his face..
I wrote the above a few weeks ago.

The kids name was Marty Conlon.Should of rememebred that since he graduated from my HS.
At coaching clinics Barnes is always the brunt of many jokes.Esp when he got into a shoving match or almost shoving match with Dean Smith. Can't remember the details of that...
Monk,your right.He has taken his teams far.And done a good job.But he's still a ass..h

Teddy V, gotta love him. he's one of those guys who thinks he is as big or bigger than the game itself. He came to the Jar this year to officiate the Akron Marshall game and suspended play briefly to threaten to remove four gentlemen from their courtside seats.

In all fairness to Teddy V, the game I mentioned had by far a better flow to it than any other game I attended all season.

great stuff boxy, I love hearing those stories and would love to hear more, I liked the one you told about the poor homeless ex-player you saw at the train station in ny after the knick game, emotional stuff, puts things in perspective......never liked barnes in-game, dont think hes that good, and always had a smug attitude just like everybody else at UT, like we're better than you, and the story you said, people dont change from that kind of values and attitudes, im sure he does similar things to this day, people dont just change
