while we're at it, lets look at the pirates catching 11- in dowdy-ficklen stadium thursday night. ecu is rebuilding this year under new coach mike houston, who has shown me something since coming to greenville, recruiting, putting together a quality staff, and overall just going about fixing all the little things that had been neglected in the pirate program for too long. they got shelled by state and navy on the road, kinda expected with the rebuilding, but game in raleigh was a lot more competitive that the final score indicated. and even though the rest of their schedule has been soft, the win @ odu last saturday showed a lot of progress.

temple looks suspect to me. their home wins over ga tech and now-exposed maryland impress me not. now they're spotting the pirates 11- points in greenville with memphis coming to philly next weekend.

this game will be big in greenville. thursday night espn game coming to town for a pirate fan base that has been in mourning for the last several years, just dying for a reason to believe again. ecu is also planning on unveiling a new black uniform for this game. friends in greenville report that the short week practices have been sharp and focused. i'm already in with the points, and i suspect i'll have a bit on the moneyline whenever my book posts it.

can't imagine it will hurt that the Owls faced what basically amounted to their entire staff from last year in lw's win over G Tech and ex Temple/current Yellow Jacket HC Geoff Collins - clearly the team was looking ahead the week before that matchup when they were pasted by Buffalo, so stands to reason there might be at least a slight hangover effect, especially considering the short week and travel

fwiw now, i put in a smaller under bet earlier when the total was 48. its down to 46- now, my cutoff number would probably be 47, in case it goes back up. temple's d is pretty good, and ecu's defense has been the most improved part of the team so far this season. we're in a heat wave this week in eastern north carolina, and the temperature at kickoff figures to be over 90 degrees. unlikely to see either team trying to speed things up.
