I mentioned a few weeks ago about the USA Weekend edition doing a cover story on my best friend. It is this weekend's issue, so be sure to check it out. Here is an article from today's Louisville Courier-Journal.

Sounds like a great guy.

Major close call. From what I understand, once cancer hits the lymph nodes, it spreads big time throughout the body and things get bad.

dawg- the news of your friend has made my day. I remember you posted his unfortunate diagnosis many months ago.
My Dad has been battling prostate cancer for several years, with surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, and now all that is left is chemotherapy, which is a very cruel treatment. I guess the secret is just to keep going. Cancer is a nasty unforgiving bitch of a disease, makes me happy hearing someone beat it!

Congratulations to your friend, I hope he has a fantastic life, I'm sure this experience has changed him in many ways, good luck to him.:)

my mother`s been through the whole gamut....she lost both breasts......then had an unrelated colon cancer....after surgery, the surgeon said it looked bad and that there wasn`t much that could be done....a year he said...maybe a little longer....

well,we got very lucky and decide to see an oncologist anyway and mom went on a chemo regimen....

we were very lucky...thank god(and i do every day)...it`s been 7 years with no recurrence...knock wood...and as i said,thank god..

make sure your dad does what he has to do...and don`t get discouraged...

i`ll say a prayer for your dad and dawg`s buddy...

thanks for your thought gw, oddly enough my Dad also had breast cancer in the early 90s. He is treated at Dana Farber in Boston which I hear is one of the best in nation. His doctor said he is the only patient he has heard of with both breast & prostate cancer, strange because they are driven by 100% opposite hormones. Breast (estrogen), prostate (testosterone). Almost seems impossible , sorry to get off topic, good luck again to your buddy d awg.

Thanks, guys.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I was the person (Moore) quoted in the article. I thought that was pretty cool.

Cancer is a terrible thing to deal with. I have several people in my life who have, had, and died from some form of cancer. Too many to list here. I think the important thing about Benson is that he is choosing to take his second chance and dedicate a portion of his life to raise awareness as well as money for continued research. He is motivation for me every day.

The article is posted on the USA Weekend site now. He is actually the top banner of the home page. I think this is pretty cool.
