with deuce on the roster, n.o. may look to trade that pick....

would the jets trade their 2 first round picks for reggie ?

the fans at the draft would go nuts if that happened....

This is awesome. I heard the news on ESPN so I went to my Betcris account and the bets at the time were as follows:

Will the Texans draft Reggie Bush?

Yes -220
No +180

Will the Saints draft Mario Williams?

Yes -200
No +180

I said no to both of them for $250 each for a quick $850. I was going to put another $250 on it as soon as it accepted my play but the line changed and if you chose no, it was Bush NO -400 and Williams NO -380. Now its off the Board.

I LOVE IT!

Texans reportedly to draft Williams at No. 1
Houston agrees to contract with N.C. State DE; will pass on USC's Bush

Frank Franklin Ii / AP
N.C. State defensive end Mario Williams, left, will reportedly be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, which would surprise many experts that thought USC running back Reggie Bush, right, would be the selection.

Updated: 8:36 p.m. ET April 28, 2006
HOUSTON - The Houston Texans have settled on who their No. 1 pick in the NFL draft will be. And it's not Reggie Bush.

The Texans have agreed to contract terms with N.C. State defensive end Mario Williams, ESPN reported, which would leave the USC star running back out in the cold. ESPN reported that the Texans had not had any contact with Bush's agent in the last 24 hours, while Houston had been in substantive negotiations with Williams' representative, Ben Dogra.

Houston general manager Charley Casserly has raved about both players, but it appears the team will settle on Williams

?I think that if Reggie Bush wasn?t in this draft, Mario Williams would be head and shoulders the first pick in this draft,? Casserly said. ?What you have ... is a pass rusher who has unique size and speed for the position. He?s almost 6-foot-7 and runs a 4.7 (40-yard dash). Vertical jump is exactly the same as Reggie Bush and he?s 90 pounds heavier.?

He was evasive when asked to compare Bush to a recent player.

?I don?t think it?s fair,? he said. ?I don?t want to say that he?s better than anybody I?ve ever scouted, I?m just saying that he?s a unique guy that is a great player that I think will be a great player in the league and I can?t pick a specific thing.?

But had no trouble with a comparison to Williams.

?When you look at all that and you start comparing defensive linemen of previous drafts and you start ?Who?s he better than? Or who?s better than him?? you don?t find a lot of names better than him,? Casserly said. ?When I scouted Julius Peppers and I?ve scouted him, I have him rated higher than Julius Peppers.?

Fans had hoped the Texans would pick Houston native and Texas quarterback Vince Young, but Casserly said he and new coach Gary Kubiak didn?t think he was right for the team that recently exercised an $8 million option on Carr?s contract.

By trading away a fifth-round pick for receiver Eric Moulds this offseason, Houston filled one glaring need. He signed a four-year, $14 million contract and will be paired with former Pro Bowler Andre Johnson.

On his visit with the Texans earlier this month, Bush was confident that the team would choose him and seemed excited about its future and talked not once ? but three times ? of ?bringing a championship to Houston.?

But officials also like Williams since the team has lacked a legitimate pass rusher the last two seasons with the declining health and productivity of two-time Pro-Bowl defensive end Gary Walker. Houston recently released the 11-year veteran.

But the Texans may have already filled that need by signing former Baltimore defensive end Anthony Weaver last month. Weaver had 117 tackles and 14.5 sacks in four years with the Ravens.

The Texans tried to shop the pick for a trade, but so far they haven?t gotten any takers.

?It?s not because we haven?t called people,? Casserly said. ?Monday morning I called teams behind us and I won?t tell you who I called or where I stopped, but you can obviously figure I called teams immediately behind us...and there was no interest.?

Houston also has the first choice in the second round and the top two picks in the third round, which could be important for a team that has so many holes to fill.

?We?re going to take the best player available,? Casserly said. ?We have enough needs. We did a good job I thought in free agency. But we still have areas where we can use depth. It won?t be hard for players that we pick to come in and contribute this year.?

And one of Houston?s needs has been dreadfully obvious since the expansion season in 2002: getting a left tackle to protect Carr, who has been sacked more than 200 times in four seasons.

Casserly also said the Texans would like reinforcements at linebacker, defensive end, safety and cornerback.

F#ck you Charlie Casserly

The TEXANS are the laughing stock of the NFL. I live in Houston and I have the Sunday ticket, so I will not watch 1 play next year of the Texans. What a dumbass organization for passing on Reggie Bush. :com: :com: I want to puke right now after hearing the news earlier tonight.

we`re all shittin` bricks here in b`more...

we were pretty sure that tennessee was drafting a qb....and with their cap dilemna, they`d almost have to let mcnair go.....and i believe if he`s let go,the ravens already have a deal done...

but.....if bush slips to tenn at 3(don`t see n.o. taking bush with deuce still in n.o.).it`s possible that mcnair goes nowhere....

they`d still have the cap issue,though...i`m reading that bush is asking for exxon/mobile ceo money....

not a happy scenario for belabored ravens fans that haven`t seen real offense in light years...

an old beat up mcnair is exponentially better than anything we`ve seen since the great vinny testa-my-patience(see scott mitchell, stoney case, tony banks, boller and anthony wright)....

jeff fisher,have mercy.....

gw...

tenn. has 2 good runners, so i believe they will never draft bush or any other back....

they'll either go with a qb at 3 or trade down & take cutler later on....which i think is their best move...

i hope you`re right,brother...a little worried that they might feel that bush is a once in a lifetime talent.....the ravens have that "best player available, regardless" mentality.....that i`m not particularly fond of...

as much as you hear the sayers comparison,i also think back to the great johnny rodgers at nebraska(i was just a pup,lol).....

as great as he was,he never adapted to the pro game....

but,i think that bush should be pretty damned good...even if he`s not an every down back...

saw united 93....it was good...very somber...no frills...

and the draft saturday, the fights saturday night(raheem/frietas) and the draft again sunday...

housebound all weekend...and loving it...

I think Houston made a decent pick. Shocked they didn't take Bush.
If I was the Texans GM, the minute it started looking like Bush would be hard to sign I would've pulled talks and traded down a few spots and draft D-Brick. The Texans need solid OLineman. He would've been perfect in Houston, IMO.

SEGAL PLANNING A BAYOU POWER PLAY

A league source tells us that agent Joel Segal plans to take the position that tailback Reggie Bush will not play for the New Orleans Saints.

The move, the source surmises, is aimed at allowing Segal to save some face after blowing Bush's shot to be the first overall pick in the draft.

The source also tells us that the Texans opted to tab defensive end Mario Williams with the No. 1 overall pick due to Bush and Segal's sky-high monetary demands. Segal, we're told, wanted $30 million in guaranteed money -- a 25 percent increase over the $24 million in guaranteed money that quarterback Alex Smith received as the No. 1 overall pick in 2005. Although Bush's recent P.R. problems didn't, we hear, play a role in the Texans' decision, word is that the multiple issues regarding Bush and his family caused the Texans to conclude that the fan base would be more likely to accept the decision to draft Williams.

As to the Saints, the thinking is that they are more than happy to fall out of the No. 2 spot, and the financial commitment that it requires. The Jets are an obvious choice to make a move, and they've got the No. 29 overall pick to throw into the mix.

Under the trade value chart, however, the Jets would still need 160 points to justify the transaction. The No. 2 pick is worth 2,600 points, the No. 4 selection is worth 1,800, and the No. 29 pick has a value of 640.

If a trade goes down between the Jets and Saints, New Orleans would draft tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson or linebacker A.J. Hawk at No.4.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that the Packers and the Raiders have contacted the Saints about a possible trade up, as have the Cardinals. The Cardinals, interestingly, would make the move not to draft Bush -- which would drop him to at least No. 3.

The Cardinals, we figure, would make the move in order to nab Ferguson. Then the question becomes whether the Titans stick with Vince Young, or whether they select Bush.

The most intriguing landing spot for Bush is Green Bay, where he would provide the kind of Reggie White impact for which Lord Favre recently has been whining. Ironically, Favre wrote off in his press conference about nothing from April 8 the possible impactof any rookie in 2006.

Brett might feel differently if the rookie they end up with is Reggie Bush.

And the Saints could still slide to the five hole and get Ferguson or Hawk. New Orleans also would be slotted one spot lower, meaning less money required to sign the player.

PFT is not exactly reliable.

I suspect that the packers may be looking to do a deal involvong Javon Walker and the #5 pick to move to #2, plus something.

BUT....supposedly the Packers are enamored with Young and might be making a move to do that....
