When Texas opens the season September 1 against Wyoming, all eyes will be on who lines up under center. David Ash, Case McCoy or Connor Brewer? Ash took every snap in the team's Holliday Bowl win, earning MVP honors. He'll enter the fall as a true sophomore hoping to improve on a freshman campaign where he threw 4 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Case McCoy will get equal reps this spring, especially because he needs to have a fair chance to win the job or else he could potentially transfer. That brings up Connor Brewer, who is the future at the position in the eyes of many Longhorn fans. The early enrollee true freshman won three straight state championships and went 41-2 as a starter. While he ideally would be redshirted, he is very polished for a guy coming out of high school. It would be fun watching summer workouts with these guys.

You Texas fans keep us posted on the QB battle going on down there in Austin.

With the Longhorn offense returning 10 starters, the defense will have to replace key leaders Emmanuel Acho, Blake Gideon and Kenan Roberson. Two players to watch on the D this season:

Quandre Diggs was part of the freshman invasion last year, and he could have made a case for being the best freshman in the Big 12. He's a shutdown cornerback ready to become a star. In a league with the type of offensive talent the Big 12 has, his skills are invaluable. Don't rule out the sophomore cracking some All-American teams next year.

Jordon Hicks made 55 tackles from his linebacker position last season. He's battled through a broken foot, but if he can stay healthy, the sky is the limit for the 6-foot-2, 235 pounder. The Ohio native was the No. 1 linebacker in the 2010 class and much will be expected of him this season.

Texas needs to pick one and adjust the offense to his strengths... Their offense never found its rhythm last year because they switched up QBs so much
