thankx Box, I always read your stuff and you're a class guy. UT doesnt have any home hoops gms unfortunately during the time, we are hitting up Corpus though and SA and gonna do the Alamo and all, think it'll be a fun time, of course me being a young single guy in my 20s will have different priorities than you being an older married guy;) ;) but some things such as good food and beautiful scenery doesn't matter what age, looking fwd to you posting more in a few weeks as the time gets closer, and anyone else with good info, Id appreciate it

LOL Thanks for the offer Box, but I dont think I can pass your test and get your stamp of approval, I have too many shortcomings;) ;) And, Im only 22, going with a good friend who teaches and lives in California who's 25, in a few weeks Ill ask Jack for your email, I certainly wouldnt mind meeting your daughter, always like to meet people, and I can find out the "inside info" maybe behind your MACC hoops knowledge;) ;) ;)
Seriously though, It would be nice to have a few people down there to meet and go out to eat with and talk to, Dont know If Im going to be in the Denton area though, Nevertheless, I will certainly drop you a line If I figure out if I'm going to be down that way, Thanks again Box, I think I gotta ask fletcher for one of those unlv coaching shirts  those are probably nice, nice army new logo too, you were right........Thanks to all for helping out

Can't believe I didn't see any Gruene Hall (gruenehall.com)responses on here. Gruene, TX is just outside New Braunfels 25 miles north of San Antonio. Country boy retreat with live music and cold beer.

Speaking of beer, make sure you try Shiner Bock brewed East of San Antonio in Shiner, Texas. (Shiner.com) It can be picked up at any of the fine Convienent stores located near you.

And finally, on the outskirts of San Antonio is the Retama Park Horse Track. Beautiful park - races were done at the end of October but they are still open for simulcasting and cold beer. (Retamapark.com) - posted off their site -"Retama Park is open daily year round for simulcasting (televised racing), except on Christmas Day. First race post times for simulcast tracks is generally 11:30 a.m., and the track closes for simulcasting nightly around 11:00 p.m."

Hope you have a safe trip and if you need anything along the way get my email from Jack and I'll do my best to accomodate y'all. - It's the Texan way.

Hey NY, I'm in Beaumont, about 45 mins east of Houston. Get over here if you can. We have a mini 6th street and we are an hour from casinos at Lake Charles. We'll show ya a good time and even house ya here if you need a place to stay. Shoot Jack and get my email if you're interested. JP

If you can't its cool, get my email anyways, and we'll go to Houston and meet ya'll and go to Treasures. Trust me, you need to go to Treasures.

I picked up a girl at South West Texas AKA Texas State University in San Marcos on a road trip and was able to convince her to spend some quality time with me. Of course that was 8 years ago and now she's my wife. Never mind, finals will be over by then.
I'll keep my eyes and ears open on what's going down in San Antonio over the holiday's from a buddy.
Here's a story to help set the mood with the ladies while in Austin.
2 buddies I went to school with at Tech came down for the UT v Nebraska game. (1 had an older brother that used to play at Neb) Saturday morning we wake up hung over and drive downtown and end up on 6th street at BW3 (2 blocks east of 6th and Congress) Buffalo wild wing watchyoumacallits. - Jesus, this story is only a month old and I can already tell that I could drag it out forever, I'll just get to the Jist of it.
I drop my wallet and didn't know it. (drunk) Girl sitting behind me picks it and hands it to me. I offer to buy her drinks for the rest of the day since she had just saved me a trip to the DMV, cancelling 400 credit cards and not to mention roughly six dollars in cash. (drunk) One buddy makes some yada yada yada beautiful girl yada yada yada I'll buy her drinks (I did hear that) and at the end of the night, she came home with us, and slept upstairs in my buddy's bed.

I believe the above to be true and any errors made are obviously due to the mind altering effects of alcohol. He did get laid though.

There you go. If this was algebra the formula would be
EZ Girls = 6th St
Drink Specials*No Cover = EZ Girls

and that my friend, is how you get
Squarely to the Root of Pie!

I'm getting to old to go down town but when we went to BW3's there was no smoking until after 2:00 pm. (if there are any smokers in the group)

Try and catch a mom and pop Mexican food place when you come down. In San Marcos there's one called Herbert's right off of I-35.

Rambling again - I'll catch some sleep and try again tomorrow.

Hey Sportsfan, you might try a Texans game, if possible, when you are in Houston. I went to a game and sat near 11 guys from Jersey and they couldn't believe the amount of fine women that were at the game. I didn't know better because I thought it was like that at all sports games, not just Texas based. When you get to San Antonio, do the Riverwalk thing because you the night view is spectacular during December, not to mention the food and drink. I believe that you can find a Duke's Roadhouse near Dallas, but since one just opened up here off of I-10 and Huebner, it's a happening spot almost every day of the week. If there is something you have in mind, give me an email and I'll see what I can think up.

Thanks for the help guys. Have been in the lone star state since 12/20, hit the great burger place in austin, and of course the riverwalk at night, alamo, et al......too bad about south padre, lol too many senior citizens, jeezus, and not enough bars, but austin and SA I liked very much, dallas nice too went to the AA center for a mavs game, houston keeps it's world renowned reputation as a cesspool of a city IMO, homeless park right near the new toyota center and stuff scattered everywhere just didn't like it much, happy new yrs to all, hope the cotton bowl's good tomorrow

Simply in the red: Weather was nice, a bit cold at night but not bad. Alamobowl itself sucked but the atmosphere was good and I never get to college football games so that was good, san antonio where u are I thought was nice, but the riverwalk and alamo a bit too touristy I wanted to get more of a local flavor, drive through some of the bad areas and some of the nice areas, but was only there for the spurs game sunday night, then monday hung out and left tues morning, thx for the help
