Rutgers -16 over Tex St ****
this line has moved up and down...was -15,-16,-16.5...think its settled in -16
Think this is a +20 point win for Rutgers....home opener...this is Ash's 3rd year....new off coord in McNulty who returns to RU after a few yrs away...will run a more pro style offense instead of last yrs... has more weapons on offense...OL is back and pretty good...but RU has running back BC transfer Hillman who could be one of the B-10 top backs...and Blackshear a 5'9 breakaway back who scored only 3 td's last yr but avg 6 yds per carry ..these 2 in the backfield gives the Nites one off their strongest backfield in years...but the real star is their super frosh 6'5 qb Art Sitkowski who has a rifle of an arm...he is the savior of the program....Ash's top recruit this year...in the Scarlet-White spring game he blew everyone in Picataway off their seats throwing 3 td's passes...Gio R is the returning qb who was terrible last yr and will be a backup...Nites also have one of the top TE's in the B-10 in Washington...Last yr Rutgers was one of the worst offense ranking 263rd abg 18 pts...they had no passing game and in the last 10 games I think their wr's caught one or 2 Td passes....RU Wr's are young but they have a home run player in track star Bo Melton...who gets separation and spreads the field...big time deep threat.. last yrs offense was " slow, stagnant and had no big plays...since they couldn't pass the ball they just ran it...someone said on why they lost with their offense " we can't line up in a phone booth with 8 or 9 guys and expect to win"...not in the Big 10 with the great defenses...they were so limited playing a power game and so predictable...that's why they were one of the worst offenses in the country...
With Art Sit at qb and two outstanding backs with a Melton and few others wr's this offense can play with the Big 10 schools...add a top TE and Blackshear who can catch the ball out of the backfield and this team will score...
Defense....RU loses almost its entire DL....so this is a young group and must generate a pass rush...they are big and athletic but young...the back 7 are outstanding...solid LB's and def backfield...that is there strength...quick and athletic...but if the DL doesn't put pressure on the other team there will a lot of blitzes..against the Michigans and Penn St's they might be a problem with their huge +300 off line man...but Texas St doesn't have that...

Ash has tried to clean house with 15-20 players being arrested in the past...and were talking about felonies..not robbing students lap top in dorms...we're talking about kidnapping, stealing cars,home,drugs..there are still some players still lingering around but Ash has done a decent job... last yr Rutgers won 4 games ..they did beat Purdue 14-12,Illinois and Maryland...and that was with an ultra conservative attack...when they played their power run offense it was 3 and out and lost to Ohio St 56-0,Indy 40-0,and Mich St 40-7...

Think Rutgers wins big in their opener...last yr they beat Morgan St 65-0, the yrs before Howard 52-14, and Norfolk 63-13...they always play a weak team in their openers...but Tex St is way better then those teams...but Tex St has many problems and was also one of the worst scoring teams in the country last year...and think they will have big time problems in East Brunswick in 2 weeks...one possible problem is that in week 2 Rutgers plays at Ohio St....so could be look ahead game and not show the Buckeyes to much...if they get out ahead...but Ash has won 2 games his 1st yr and doubled that with 4 wins last yr...don't think Tx St offense can move the ball and score and RU offense can dominate Bobcats defense...back in a few days with Bobcats preview.. will day later in the next week NorthTexas-SMoo and Army-Duke..

a possible prop bet is Rutgers over 3.5 wins ***
Rutgers has Tx St,@ Kansas,Buffalo home,, Indy and Illi on the road...at maryland, home Northwestern, and then 0-4 vs Wisky,Michigan,Penn St and Mich St.....home or away in the final 4 doesn't make a difference.....think they can win Tex St,Buffalo.... Kansas away possibly, and maybe split Illi or Ind...maybe even win at Maryland...they did beat those 2 last yr...no question they lose the final 4 and Ohio St.....think they can get 4-5 maybe 6 wins..if there offense with Sit at qb with solid Rb's and TE they might make some noise....defense back 7 are solid but if they cannot put pressure on opposing qb's they could be in trouble...they have 5 automatic losses but the rest could be possible wins...like the +3.5 a lot....with 7 offensive players back and 8 on defense and winning 4 games last yr they are a much better offensive team.....back in a few days with Bobcat preview....

Rutgers-16 over Texas St ******
Line has remained at -16....
update on Rutgers...Ash has named freshman qb Art Sit start to start ...he has more upside then former starter Gio R who will be his backup..Sit has one of the strongest arms in the Big 10 but needs to improve on his touch...but if OL gives him protection he could be B-10 rookie of the yr...and against Tx St the OL of Rutgers should give him all the time he needs

Tx St
They have 2-10 back to back seasons under Withers..he is 4-20..last yr in the Sun Belt conf they were 1-7. He has a young team that should improve somewhat with his 2 years of his recruits...last yr their offense "struggled" big time...had no running game what so ever...were ranked 109th in rushing out of 129 teams...there passing defense was even worse giving up around 300 yds per game...so with no running game and no pass defense you go 2-10...rushing defense was ranked 40th giving up 141 yds...but why run the ball...just pass it...
OL had big time problems with injuries and players "shuffling" around...This yr they have 3 starters back...they just announced Jones will start at qb...he played in 10 games was 18-37 for 280 yds...this Saturday will be his 1st start..top rb is back in Taylor who had about 400 yds...WR's have 2 back but many new guys fighting for those positions..defense. top 2 wr's have 8 total receptions...they have a decent front 7 with there top 2 or 3 players at linebacker...but its secondary is weak and young..Front 7 need to attack blitz or what ever because secondary could be exposed big time...another big weakness is special teams...

Think Rutgers is a bad matchup for Texas St....RU has 2 solid rbs...big OL to give Sit time to throw...has home run hitter in WR Bo who would like to catch a few Sit bombs and make everyone see there freshman qb on display...they have Blackshear at rb who can break a long run and also returns kickoffs...I think he will run back one ...RU has a super TE that cannot see Bobcats stopping...RU defense back 7 are big time...its the DL that is questionable..but vs the TX St OL think they could dominate.. Tx Defense in trouble...very young and inexperienced. team starts 5 seniors,3 on defense and 2 on offense..a qb \making his 1st start on the road...
think Rutgers wins this 44-14...home game,1st game...
last week 8 players from Rutgers were arrested...but all of those were already removed from team....only concern is Rutgers has Ohio St next week...with a comfortable lead they might "lift there foot off the pedal" in the 4th for a back door cover...but really think they will so out in front it won't matter...
