Texas -3 over LSU

$5500 to win 5000 :scared :scared

Second biggest wager of my life.

I have absolultely no doubt Texas will beat LSU by at least 6 pts.

LSU is not a very good 3 pt shooting team & without that abiliity to hit the long ball it is damn near impossible to beat Texas, unless they completely destroy themselves.

If you look at UT's losses on the year there is theme....teams that made a bunch of 3's @ a very high percentage rate w/ only 1 exception the game vs A&M (arch-rival game) where UT just didnt show up to play at all. Sorry LSU that wont happen today. Texas is coming to play.

Made 3's in UT losses:

Duke........12 @55%
Tenn........12 @ 50%
Oklahoma......8 @ 40%
Okie St.........7 @ 44%
A&M.............5 @ 25%
Kansas..........12 @ 50%

Now I can not see anyway LSU shoots today above a 40% from 3 & no where near 50%.

The Tigers only have one real threat from behind the arc, & that is D. Mitchell....Texas can contain one guy from 3, it's when you have 3 or 4 guys that can shoot it & force UT out of thier 2/3 zone they run into trouble.

LSU tries to out-muscle you, tries to control the glass & they do a damn good job of it, but today they have a met their match. Texas doesnt back down from anyone when it comes to playin physical. They thrive off it.

Knock the level of play in the Big 12 all you want this year, but the one thing you can't deny is that it is a very physical league. :box2:

Texas will employ their 2-3 zone today more than normal & pack it in tight vs the Tigers but they will keep the Tigers off balance by throwing their strong man-to-man D at them as well. They have plenty of big bodies to battle LSU with today, including Buckman, Tucker, Williams & while not a physical post player Aldridge is long, lean, very athletic & a great shot blocker.

LSU WILL NOT :nono: be able dominate the boards today, which was the key to their success vs Duke. Texas is the #1 rebounding margain team in the country. It should be a war fighting for the ball off the missed shots today.

Now this is just a hunch on this one, but a wildcard in this game for me is going to be Daniel Gibson. He has not played that well in the tourney to date & this goes back to poor play in most of the Big 12 tourney as well. I have a "gut" feelling he has a very big day today. I am going to call 20+ from Gibson today, hitting at least 4 from 3 pt land.

What it comes down to is that LSU is a good solid ballclub, but today they are out-matched. They are the type of team Texas loves to play. A power team that cant shoot that well feeds into UT's style of play.

Without getting in to it really as it is plain for anyone to see Texas has a big advantage in guard play, which by now everyone knows is a key aspect in the college game, especially come tourney time.

LSU is prone to some careless turnovers & if they do turn it over today Texas will bury them. Texas presents match-up problems for LSU. Aldrigde is a nightmare for any team. 6-11 post guy that can play inside or outside & has a great shooting touch. He can play in the lane, on the block,on the perimeter & he has a tremendous baseline turnaround J.

A great match up to watch today will be 6-7 Thomas on 6-5 Tucker. Two of my favorite players in the game.

Forgot to mention Texas also has the experince edge w/ coaching & with its players as Buckman & Paulino remain from the 2003 Final Four team.

Good Luck :scared

PS. I think the Under may be a nice play as well as long as you can get 133 or higher.

HOOK'EM HORNS!!

if Texas is to win it has to hit its 3s. Dont expect Aldredge to put up 26 points today and it wont be easy for Tucker to drive the lane for a layup. I think the focus for both of them, at least initially, is to play solid defense and rebound reboud rebound.

Abrahms and Paulino are very capable of hitting 3s...and Gibson can if he's "on". The guards are going to have to win this game. I'm hoping Paulino can use the game winner as a springboard to a good game today. Abrahms is playing much better than he has most of the season IMO.

and keep the ball outta Buckman's hands on offense. he's been killin this team with his shooting lately.

I agree with you that LA is not going for 26 today, but he wont be shut down. He will bring Big Baby out of the lane on D & if they go zone he will find the soft spots in the zone & hit his very nice short to mid range shot. LA has a great shooting touch.

I also agree that the entire UT front line will be thinking rebounding & defense first, but when don't they??? #1 rebounding team in the country & #5 defensive FG% in the country @ 38.2%.

I disagree that UT will have to light it up from 3 to win. UT can win w/o hitting 8 or 9 3's. They just have to hit a few early to keep LSU honest on D & force them to guard UT behind the arc....that is the key.

OK
with you on the under but going with LSU and the points:

Last game LSU held Duke to lowest scoring total since 1996, Tyrus Thomas was back with 13 boards and 5 blocks. Are you sure its LSU that lack guard depth and not Texas.

TX top 3-point shooter Daniel Gibson has only made 7 of his last 26 attempts and starting two guard Kenton Paulino was 3 for his last 13.

Outside of Darrell Mitchell, LSU does not have crisp ball handlers. In fact, Tiger ball handling is poor. Expect a glut of turnovers if UT shows the requisite defensive intensity.

If the Horns blanket Mitchell for 40 minutes and force the remaining Tigers to handle the ball, UT wins.

Yes I am sure. I will take Gibson, Paulino & AJ Abrahms over LSU guards any day of the week.

LSU shoots about 32% from 3, but they dont shoot that many. They only have one guy, Mitchell, over 35%.

Love the Tigers! But bench depth is really going to hurt us in this one. Payne, why do you like the tigers? Poor 3 point shooting, no bench depth, I just don't see how the tigers match up well in this one.

Great write-up! Thanks for putting in the time...

I am on the Horns as well... I agree that the guards are going to be the differance here.
