The folks here at Madjack's have been very generous and kind in the past. My company is having trouble with a problem that Madjackers may be able to resolve. I bragged on the great sense of community I have seen here and got approval to pose the situation here. We are open to ideas on how to solve the problem and invite you to share yours.

I am working with a Hospice organization. I know most of you are familiar with the type of care we provide. If you're not aware, hospice is care provided for folks whose disease is considered terminal and for whom all aggressive therapy has been exhausted.

We have, recently, begun providing service to a beautiful, 5 year old girl who was born with a rare form of cancer. This family has been strong and extremely supportive for the last five years and their community has helped them along their journey. Now, though, they are experiencing another difficulty. They have asked our social worker for resources to help defray the cost of their child's funeral. Since she was born with the cancer, they were unable to purchase life insurance for her and, with the expenses of her treatments, they haven't been able to save anything toward the anticipated cost of her funeral.

Our company isn't able to absorb her expenses and we are not a non-profit organization, therefore, any donations would not be tax deductable. Does anyone have any fundraising ideas that would not require a lot of planning/coordination but would, hopefully, result in providing some peace of mind for this family? Any suggestions are appreciated and will be presented to our social workers. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Get a local paper to run a story on it. Provide donation information for the funeral.

Truthfully, if it was in my neighborhood, and I had the cash I'd pay for the whole thing.

Sadly, due to medical privacy laws, we cannot publicize this family's plight by using any identifying information. There have been fundraisers and prayer chains within their community however this doesn't grant us the privilege of sharing her identity with people who could/would be willing to help. :(
