Happy Thanksgiving to everyone I can remember my family going to the Thanksgiving parde . My next door neighbor and good friend was the NY Police Commishener . He went down early and was sitting with the Mayor and all the other dignartaries on NY City He instructed me to to get down there early on 5th Street and my family could sit in the bleachers with the Mayor and everyone else. Of course we hit traffic and got there late But he gave me a police pass and personnel letter in case I needed it Of course we leave late hit traffic and get there to late We are right across from the bleachers he is sitting with on 5th Ave and Central Park . But on the wrong side of 5th Ave Its so cold and the wind is blowing . My wife and I and my 4 kids are freezing . But across the street there is a Sunday grate where warm air is coming up keeping us warm . We talk and show a NYC police officer our pass and personnel note and he call a few more cops to come over and he will cross us over to the other side My wife convinces me for us to stay on the opposite side because we are getting nice warm air from the subway grate and its almost like a heater. Another police officer comes by and brings us hot chocolate and coffe to keep us warm

we are watching the parade right on the sidewalk with no crowd what so ever. My kids are getting a front row seat to all the floats and performers . These are better seats that Pat has across the street . The warm air coming up from the subway grate is keeping us warm The police come and ask us to get ready to cross 5th Ave but my wife says we are going to stay on this side of 5th Ave . The next thing we know they are getting us some chairs for us and inform Pat that his guest have arrived and are across the street from him We see him and wave . We watch all the floats and performers for almost 2 hours and constantly the police are bring us hot chocolate and coffees and asking us if we need any food . After seeing Santa Claus end the parade we find out car and are on the way home But my body and my families bodies are soaked in " soot" Un beknown to us was the subway grate and nice warm air was subway soot escaping down below In the car driving home we realized the " soot was black and my under wear that was white was now black Then my wife's and daughters bra's were black . That warm air was subway soot escaping from down below . We were all so dirty that when we got home we all had to shower . I think my wife threw out everyone's under wear . As I watch the parade this morning on NBC that memory always comes back Hope everyone has a happy and healthy thanksgiving Its nice too walk my dog here in Texas and its in the 60's I kept Pats note and it said ' These are personnel friends of mine so please give them anything they ask for Signed Acting NYPD Commisioner Pat K Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the day
