The Alien in the White House

The distance between the president and the people is beginning to be revealed.

The deepening notes of disenchantment with Barack Obama now issuing from commentators across the political spectrum were predictable. So, too, were the charges from some of the president's earliest enthusiasts about his failure to reflect a powerful sense of urgency about the oil spill.
There should have been nothing puzzling about his response to anyone who has paid even modest critical attention to Mr. Obama's pronouncements. For it was clear from the first that this president?single-minded, ever-visible, confident in his program for a reformed America saved from darkness by his arrival?was wanting in certain qualities citizens have until now taken for granted in their presidents. Namely, a tone and presence that said: This is the Americans' leader, a man of them, for them, the nation's voice and champion. Mr. Obama wasn't lacking in concern about the oil spill. What he lacked was that voice?and for good reason.

WSJ Asia editorial writer Hugo Restall reports on the President's travel plans.

Those qualities to be expected in a president were never about rhetoric; Mr. Obama had proved himself a dab hand at that on the campaign trail. They were a matter of identification with the nation and to all that binds its people together in pride and allegiance. These are feelings held deep in American hearts, unvoiced mostly, but unmistakably there and not only on the Fourth of July.

will this make you less radical exposed to the world as we might be ?

I don't make a big deal of how the demeaner of a president should be according to the press. Every president has their own style and several have taken the more subdued response. Have I been disappointed with Obama at times? Most definitely!

I see an address to the nation is scheduled for Tuesday night. I hope we hear something positive for uniting us all. You would think the oil spill would fuse some sort of agreement on the future of this trajedy. It hasn't happened yet.

On another subject, the Wall Street Reform Bill is in conference this week. I'm particularly interested in Section 216 of the Senate bill. If it gets watered down, my optimism for true reform will be gone. If anyone wants to discuss the reform bill, start a new thread, I'll participate.

No,

but... the hit and run thread started by deezy was bull shit and cowardly, he had all the opportunities to come in here anytime before the door was wide open to speak his peace, but chose to do a drive by when everyone could see him. Blah blah blah.... But do you have any opinion on any real world topics deezy? In the grand scheme of things sports really doesn't matter, does it?
